surfing isla natividad

travelCabo123 - 5-11-2009 at 02:48 PM

Hey i wanted to see if anyone knows how it is leaving your car at the village before you take the boat out to isla natividad.

would you recommend getting a mexican fishing license if you plan to do a little fishing while camping? is it enforced?

Hello TravelCabo123,

If you are fishing from land only, you do not need to get a license. If you plan on fishing on the boat ride out to the island, you will need one. Not sure how much it is enforced, but it is worth it to spend a few bucks and get the license.

parking in PUNTA EUGENIA ...

TC123 ... Parking your car or truck in PUNTA EUGENIA while you surf in NATAVIDAD is NO problema ...
Look up TOMAS ARCE VILLAVICENCIO in the village and leave your VEHICLE by his house ...(I have had dinner many times with him and his family) He will even give you a ride to the ISLAND in the afternoon after he finishes fishing for the day. He is one of the few fishermen who has their own boat to shuttle people to the islands ...
Tell him his amigo CRISTOBAL sent you ...

Natividad is few miles off Punta Eugenia, at the end of the Viscaino Peninsula (and between P. Eugenia and Cedros Island).

Isla Natividad belongs to Baja California Sur and is just south of Cedros. Many years ago Scorpio Surfing Tours would do surf camps there for a week during the summer months. We fly out of Ensenada using either Capitan Cervates' Convair or DC3 direct to Isla Natividad usualy with a stop on Cedros or Guerrero Negro. My very good friend Jorge MacFarland originated Scorpio Surfing Tours with a group of friends from Ensenada and for a time we merged Pipeline Surf Expeditions with it and would travel all of México promoting surf in México. Open Doors and Frijole Bowl are the most popular breaks on the island.
If it was not breaking (and you should be prepared for this) you would be in for a week of lobster, abulon, fish, etc. until the plane came back. Never crossed on boat. good luck.

Drove out there several years ago to check it out but with no real swell to speak of it wasn't worth a trip. Great vibe in the village. I'd imagine it would be bad for business if you hired them for a trip to Natividad and your rig got broken into. Don't think I'd sweat it too much.

PUNTA EUGENIA ...

The people in PUNTA EUGENIA are very friendly ... I have spent several nights there in the past 20 years.

Best time for SURFING the isla is during a SOUTH swell when the waves seem to go on forever ... usually summer time ...

15 years ago I took down a SURFER magazine to one of the teenagers in this little fish camp ... Just happens NATIVIDAD was the centerspread in AUG 1993 ... This kid was in heaven with all these beautiful waves ... just 5 miles off the coast ...

If you are going to make the trip ... be sure and stock up on goodies for the locals ... garage sale T-SHIRTS are a big one for the DADS and the kids ... pens and notebook paper ... candy ... :wow:;)

Don't forget to visit the ABALONE laboratory just EAST of the village ... right on the water ... you can see all the tanks full of baby MOLLUSKS ... It takes several years of growth before they are "set free" along the coast.
ABALONE season is right now ...:O:smug::wow:

PUNTA EUGENIA ...... no problem :bounce::wow::yes:
