Mexican government officials announced a new toll-free hotline yesterday that will allow crime victims or witnesses to crimes in Baja California to
call from the United States with anonymous tips for law enforcement in Mexico.
The hotline, at (866) 201-5060, is a service of the Baja California state government and is running. According to Alberto Diaz GonzAlez, a spokesman
for the Mexican consulate in San Diego, caller identification will be blocked, so there will be no record of who calls. No personal information will
be taken, he said, only the caller's statement.
According to a government leaflet, the hotline will be staffed 24 hours a day and may be dialed toll-free from anywhere in the United States,

If it was up and running in Mexico- the police might be endangered by actually going to the scene of a crime in progress. Americans will make the

It's been up and running in México for a few years, the number is 089 wich is were the toll free calls from 866 201-5060 are forwarded to. This new
toll free number is just extending 089 to the US. It is called "programa nacional de denuncia anonima".
I feel much safer!!!

There should be some kind of record of the caller. What if the hotline caller is setting one up? Whoops.... there is no record of a caller!?
I never thought this way until we were set up by a hotline call. Now I feel it is a system that has to have checks and balances. It is a system
designed to protect but can easily be abused.

Actually I hope no one follows that protocol. What's the point of even having police if they are only willing to show up after a crime and not engage
the crimnals in the act? Are you sure that's the way officers are trained? Same for SWAT?

I hope not also.....you are trained not to drive into the middle of an ongoing situation....you assess and approach from the perimeter.........new
tactics being developed everyday including active assailant response......but again, I'm not sure other countries or agencies train that way......I

Huh? Did I miss something new and smart the Mexican government has done so I can celebrate? I mean besides breaking those 50 narcos out of maximum
security prison last week? The video of that event on the Today show was amazing. The guards actually helped and it was so calm and organized that it
looked like the 50 escapees were just shuffling off to the cafeteria for lunch...
Expanding a two year old failed program to a second country doesn't make it new, better or an improvement over doing nothing at all actually. Maybe
in Mexico doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result is seen as progress- in the rest of the world it is the definition of
insanity.

deteriorating fast and petty crrimes are up as more people have their hours cut or lose their jobs. No peace at home as every barrio has a new group
of thugs in charge placed by the new narcos in charge and they aren't playing nicey-nice with their neighbors. I don't understand what could prevent

game in my opinion. I didn't view it as advocacy within the US political system. Just too bad there are so many knee-jerkers out there seemingly
