Surf fishing Pics

Russ - 5-22-2009 at 06:36 PM

These are some older pics of fish I use to be able to catch on a regular basis but are a real bonus to get now.
Here's where I do most of my catching

Name these fish?

I know there are some surf fishermen/women out there. I'd love to have this thread go a few pages anyway so post your pics or steal some and post them.

Frank - 5-22-2009 at 06:42 PM

baitcast - 5-23-2009 at 06:39 AM

What a great way to fish the beach,DT knows his beach fish, just love ladyfish wish they grew to 10# or 15# and one of my favorites which I love to catch on topwaters.

baitcast - 5-23-2009 at 07:15 AM

What could be better a lonely beach with a good friend with fish on.

Nice pics Russ. I have posted most of my beach fishing pictures at one time or another. To post them again may result in a display of hate and discontent by some of my Nomad bretheren (is sisteren a word?)

We will be headed South around the end of June and I will try to catch a fish or two for a "beach fishing" post. Not sure if I should include a picture of my beach fishing rig....you know, the "driving on the beach" drama.......dt

ps: give Mason a scratch for me....

baitcast - 5-23-2009 at 08:53 AM

You will get no hate or discontent from me,post away.Rob

Russ - 5-23-2009 at 08:58 AM

Mine have been here too. At least once. Woody, post you pic/s here. We like to see those slabs as often as you care to show them.

baitcast - 5-23-2009 at 09:36 AM

Russ don,t worry about Woody showing those spots, most any min.

baitcast - 5-23-2009 at 09:48 AM

dtbushpilot - 5-23-2009 at 10:13 AM

Ok, here goes.......

And beach fishing wouldn't be any fun without a fishing partner...

baitcast - 5-23-2009 at 11:00 AM

Your partner looks like fun, ID the fish in my right hand if you can.

dtbushpilot - 5-23-2009 at 11:06 AM

Yes, she is

Totuava?

[Edited on 5-23-2009 by dtbushpilot]

Russ - 5-23-2009 at 11:54 AM

Or, maybe... Corvina Rena? I found the tail very similar. This is a young one I found on google. The cigarette looks home rolled.

baitcast - 5-23-2009 at 12:35 PM

Here's another angle of my Parot/Hogfish. All the Parot fish I looked up have teeth like a trigger. This is way different so I'm going to call it a Hogfish too.

Definite hogfish. Close relative to the sheephead. No relation to the parrot fish.

Hogfish, sheepshead, and parrotfish are all wrasses. They are related to one another.

Doh! Didn't realize parrotfish were in the wrasse family. Thanx for the info!

Skipjack Joe - 5-26-2009 at 01:07 PM

I didn't either until recently.

The wrasse family of fish has got to be one of the most successful and most ubiquitous group of fish in the world. We (Americans) are just too far up north to have noticed this 'cause they seem to inhabit mostly tropical waters. But when you look at the tropical fish tanks in, say, the Monterey Fish Aquarium most of the fish are either wrasses or triggerfish. At least that's how it seems. All those small 'cleaner fish' you see in Natl. Geo. that enter those large mouths of snappers and groupers (those small neon blue little guys) are wrasses.

Woody, if you tell me where you caught these there might be an East Cape fishing trip in it for you. I promise not to make a significant dent in the local croaker population...dt

I always try to remember to bring my camera when I go fishing. I've missed lots of "kodak moments" in the past, I take pictures now that I have a few hundred new best friends at Nomads who want to see them.....dt
