Camping off the road or hotels. Rancho Santa Inez, Ynez, anuz or however anyone wants to spell it is just south of town and is quite popular.
La Pinta in town is there but I don't particularly recommend it.

Try Ignacio Springs in San Ignacio. Look them up on their website. Not to be missed. That gives you a very easy second day and puts you into Loreto early.

Timing...

From Tijuana to Loreto you will make around 13-14 hours of straight driving.... If you can not leave early morning from SD, you could stay with us in BajaCactus Motel, we are around 5 hours from Tijuana, however, next day you will still have around 9 more hours of driving.

Just keep in mind that, after passing Catavi?a, you should keep going at least to Guerrero Negro (3-4 hours more), because in between it is mostly desolate.

Enjoy your trip and have fun....

San Ysidro- Catavi?a 7 hours Catavi?a- Loreto 6 hours. And that's towing a trailer going south. No tired days with plenty time for evenings, food and drink!:light:

Leave San Quintin Early and get to Guerrero Negro for Lunch at the Mallimarino for Scallops or Pismo Clams then to Loreto.

Oscar at Santa inez is a great Host and a good Spot to Spend the Night.
Have a good Trip!!

If you choose the San Igancio stopping point San Ignacio Springs B&B will make your trip! Terri and Gary are the best hosts you could dream to find any place...do plan on gaining an extra pound at breakfast!

Non towing, drive like hell times...

Hey, I'm just kidding (I only drive fast when the roads are wet and it's night time, passing semis)

Tijuana/Border - a) San Quintin/Cielito Lindo 4.5 hrs.

San Quintin/Cielito Lindo - b) Catavina/Santa Ynez: 1.5 hrs. (6.0 from Border)

Catavina/Santa Ynez - c) L.A. Bay Jcn.: 1.0 hr. (7.0 from Border)

L.A. Bay Jcn. - d) Guerrero Negro Jcn.: 1.5 hrs. (8.5 from Border)

Guerrero Negro Jcn. - e) San Ignacio: 1.5 hrs. (10 from border)

San Ignacio - Loreto: 3 hrs. (13 hrs. total)

Places to stay: Camping: a) Gypsy's, Cielito Lindo or Playa Pabellon. Gypsy's has the best breakfast burritos and they're just a buck.

b) Rancho Santa Ynez (dining too)

c) drive the 41 miles into Bahia + 4 more to Camp Gecko. (Las Hamacas Restaurant or taco stand just north)

d) The Malarrimo RV Park & Malarrimo Restaurant

e) Rice & Beans RV Park & Restaurant for quick & easy. Otherwise find the oasis setting campgrounds closer to the plaza for extended stay (warning you may not want to leave)

MOTELS:

a) Can't recall the name but a highly recommended motel in San Quintin was discussed here or in El Rosario the Baja Cactus for quicker get away in the morning! Lobster omlette served at Espinoza's Place!!

b) La Pinta, but is $$$. Motel nearby noisey. Bunk house at Rancho Santa Ynez is a great deal if you are adventurous. Matilda makes breakfast there.

c) Drive the 41 miles to the bay and stay at Costa del Sol or Raquel & Larry's. Las Hamacas for breakfas or Raquel's.

d) the Malarrimo Motel & Restaurant.

e) Rice and Beans (Ricardo's) Motel and Restaurant. Or Ignacio Springs Bed & Breakfast!
