SEARCHING BAJANOMADS

rob - 5-23-2009 at 04:56 PM

Some weeks/months ago I read a recommendation in the Forum for the excellent dental services of a Dr. Talamantes in La Paz.

In lapazgringos, a Yahoo forum, there was a post today warning that a Dr Talamantes work had led to infection through her failure to take x-rays etc etc.

I need some dental work done and was all set to try and contact Dr Talamantes, but now I want to contact the poster of the recommendation to see if we are talking about the same Dr Talamantes . . .

All my searches have failed. Does SEARCH only look at Topics? Or who posted? Or is there available a text search within individual posts?

Thanks as always!

La Paz Dentist

Just want to share my recent dentist experience here in La Paz. Long story short, I arrived in La Paz thinking I had a cavity in a root that is the support tooth for a triple crown bridge (not good). I asked several people so not sure if it was Longlegs or Old Lady that recommended Dr. Talamantes. He has state of the art equipment in a very clean and modern office. He said his normal fee is $4,000 pesos per crown, in my case I was looking at $12,000 pesos, but said that if it broke during removal he would only charge me $8,000 pesos. He took an xray of the tooth, removed the bridge (without breaking it, yeah!), found NO cavity (yeah again!), cleaned everything, recemented and I was out the door for $600 pesos! Dr. Talamantes speaks perfect English and did a wonderful job. I would recommend him to my friends in a heartbeat. He's also a cutie pie!

We folks living in Los Barriles have passed Dr.Talamontes name and number around for many years. I do not know of any bad reports only the best! His son is excellent also and so is his Ex-wife. Son used to work out of his office, Estrada has her own office. They do get very busy at times and we think they are the best. Los Barriles has a new Dentist that has been brought here from TJ, he is setting up in the Gringo Plaza. Local benefactors have paid his way here to serve both the Americans and also to do free work on children in the area as a community service. He comes with the best recommendation possible, Dr. Marcial Ceballos who has earned our respect and trust as the local Amerimed Doctor.

I've read the post you are talking about and don't know that I would go by one persons experience.

sounds like there might be 3 Dr's. a "he", a "she" and a "son"?

Ana (Linglinglinglinglingling....) and I both used Dr. Talamantes and were very pleased with him. We went to him because Nomads TwoGringos recommended him. Turns out that they were recommending Talamantes senior and we were worked on by Talamantes junior. Even so, he seems to be a very good dentist. First class office with very modern equipment. His prices are higher than other dentists we been to in Mexico but still much cheaper than U.S. prices.

Club Cruceros out at Marina La Paz has a list of local services that lists many dentists. http://www.clubcruceros.org/Services.html

Bajanuts is correct there are three Dentists named Talamantes. I am only familiar with the father and son. I just had a porcelain crown done in April and the price is $4000.mx which with the exchange then worked out to $285usd. I use Edwardo Talamantes the father and have for years, his work is excellent. My understanding is that the son specializes in permenant replacements as well as general dentistry and have heard good things about him as well.

This was the post on LaPaz Gringos:

"To those who suggested an honest attorney, I thank you. Gisela Talamantes’s name came up three times. Although she is cousin to the dentist who has messed up my teeth, gums, and jaw and nearly cost me my life because of undetected infections over many months (she never did one x-ray…duh), we have confidence in Gisela’s legal service, not her cousin’s dentistry."

I recommended Eduardo Talamantes. It appears she is referring to a "she", not the same doctor at all.

If any conclusion can be made, it's that the Talamantes certainly values education.

Thanks to everyone - think we nailed it. Father and son appear to have excellent recomendations, the distaff side (according to ONE opinion - point taken Comitan) to be treated more cautiously.

Thanks to lingililingili for the original info too!
