Any Info on Flying Out of the TJ Airport?

sancho - 5-26-2009 at 08:57 AM

Planning a flight out of TJ, is it easier
to drive thru Otay Mesa to the Airport?
or are there Taxi's at the Otay crossing?
And regarding the Fmt Tourist card,
where would I get one?
Is there Mex Immigration at the Airport?
or should I get and pay for the Fmt
at one of the bordercrossings?
thanks for your
time and info
eks

Volaris runs a TJ airport shuttle from/to the San Diego downtown train station. I don't think you have to fly Volaris to use this shuttle. $15 each way.

That shuttle stops at immigration just inside the border, so you can get your FMT. There used to be a great operation at Otay, strangely called Otay Park & Shuttle, but they recently closed down. I don't know if anyone filled the void. Since long term parking is quite reasonable at the TJ airport, you could just cross at Otay, get your FMT, and proceed to the airport to park. The TJ airport has a website with all info. Google it.

About $16.00 per day at TJ airport parking.

Not any more...

The Volaris shuttle is no longer running out of the Amtrak station effective May 15. They direct you to Greyhound/Cruceros out of the Greyhound station on Broadway. http://www.crucero-usa.com/EN/Home.shtml for timetables/prices.

None of the cross-border shuttles stop at the border for FMTs. It's strictly a revision/inspection stop. If you're taking commercial transporation cross-border you get your FMTs at the airpot.

I strongly believe that San Ysidro is faster to get to the Tijuana airport and if flying FMT is easier to get at the airport.

Here are a couple of maps, it is closer, faster, less gas, etc. , crossing at San Ysidro that Otay to the airport.
