It would be interesting to get gnukid's anaysis (using brevity please, if possible). What purpose, besides the obvious commercial value that Mr. BillM
states, would the media have to deliberately report untruths? One negative consequence is that, with repetition and constant reinforcement, is it
becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I'll bite. Its only my guess but I would say that reporting with a violent/fear angel on border issues serves their purposes. Either way, one should
accept that what is reported is what the editors and publishers and owners want to see reported so within that theater.
Q. why would they exaggerate violence on the border?
A. It serves the increasing police/military industrial complex justification of increased budgets, suggest a problem to be addressed by policing
expenditures, reduce the number of US citizens leaving the USA with tax dollars, reduce energy use through travel. Increase fear and tension between
races in order to divide the masses create conflict.
All of these above give strength to the increasing military/policing budgets while decreasing overall peace-minded and social cost cutting policies.
In summary we do not need more police/military, we need basic social services: education, general services, streets, sidewalks, parks.
