Opening Soon in Bahia Asuncion

DianaT - 6-2-2009 at 09:27 PM

Our friends, Jesus and Martha have been working hard to open their new family bar by father's day. But if they do not make that deadline, it will open fairly soon and we hope all visitors and part-time residents will send business thier way. They are really super nice people and we hope they are sucessful.

OK, for you map people and ones who get lost in Bahia Asuncion, here is the location on the very outdated Google Earth Map.

Not much to look at from the outside yet, but that will change.
Also, there will be a deck out front. This picture was taken a while back.

Jesus is going to build better stairs and have a small outdoor area on top---room for about 5 people and he promised to have good strong safety rails.

He is working on the bathrooms. He will have a septic so they will be real bathrooms. Also, he is going to connect to the city water. For electricity, for now he will have a generator and maybe solar in the near future until the electric lines reach that area.

For the inside, they have been collecting nautical items for decoration and are also creating a history of Bahia Asuncion wall.

They burned the wood for this bar area that will open to the outside--it is not reinforced yet.

Another view of the inside---they were camping in there at the time which is why there are toothbrushes in the old phone.
Jesus is a Bahia Asuncion native, but also lives in Rosarito. They chose to camp there this time instead of staying with one of their many family members in Bahia Asuncion so they could work from morning until night.

Martha on the left and one of their nieces, Brenda on the right. Brenda is attending school on the mainland and will return to BA as a nurse.

And Jesus on the right with his ever present smile.

So, we hope visitors will stop by when it is completed.

Bajaboy - 6-2-2009 at 09:43 PM

I wish them the best of luck and will exchange a few pesos now and then...anything to help the economy, right?

zac

We'll be sure to stop by.

I especially like the speaker supporting the ceiling beam.

shari - 6-3-2009 at 07:05 AM

Wooo hooo...a family bar!!! This means it isnt a cantina with ummm...pleasing ladies...but more of a family atmosphere where woman can go for a brewsky while the kids play at the beach. This is a very welcome project as it will be the first bar where we nomad princesses can hang out...and it's just a hop skip and trip from our place. I'm glad they will have a real bathroom...this will also bring water and power to that area where there is none at the moment.
We wish them all the success and will happily bring all our visitors there...better get a Get Baja steeker ready!
By the way, Jesus is Armandos brother...thus the likeness.

Nice post Diane... Good news for the Nomadians of Asuncion and visitors, too! :D

Shari... if you have any more 'got baja?' stickers from our visit, please add one to the new bar's sticker window or where-ever! :bounce:

They are doing a history of Bahia Asuncion wall along with current Bahia Asuncion.

I really hope they do not start one of those really ugly ego sticker walls or windows that pollute so many small places in Baja. Of course, it is their choice if they want to placate the egomaniacs who like to see their stuff everywhere they visit and even places they don't.

The sticker idea was NOT mine... Did you read the earlier post by Shari? It is the reason for my reply you both quoted:

SO, I only asked Shari if she still had any... as I gave her several along with some Baja Nomad stickers, when we met. You guys are really something! You miss mentioning the local person who wanted to add a sticker and go after me...

'got baja?' is all about bringing a smile to fellow Baja travelers... that's it.

DianaT - 6-4-2009 at 11:38 AM

No one is "going after you"----such an ego trip David.

Yes, Shari suggested the sticker and I stated my opinion about stickers in lots of places in Baja and my hope that they will keep to the Bahia Asuncion Wall and not placate the egomaniacs, some of whom also seem to be paranoid.

So some agree that the stickers are a blight on the landscape, and you see it as going after you----sorry, David, hate to disappoint you, but it is not all about you.

Again, we have a failure to communicate: I did not suggest adding a sticker to the new bar. I only was asking if Shari still had some.

They are BUMPER STICKERS... if they are put anywhere else, make sure they are in a place where they are already there and the owner says okay.

I like to share the fun of Baja... help others to have a fun time, help the locals improve their condition... It is NOT about me or my ego. You found out about Asuncion because of Shari and the web site I made for her... and suggesting she come to Baja Nomad. Yah, that was sooo ego-ish of me that YOU now have a home there!

shari - 6-4-2009 at 02:18 PM

well I guess the majority of locals here are ego maniacs then because mexican folks LOVE LOVE LOVE their stickers!!! (as do many got baja types) I figure this bar will be well attended by nomads...stickers or not.
I'm proud to be a Nomad and like it when I see Got Baja stickers on other vehicles as it gives me an excuse to chat them up and find out who they are in nomadville...so yes, usually the got baja stickers bring a smile.

I guess I have just immersed too well into this culture....I must admit, I wasnt much of a sticker person before moving here...but now find myself asking for them so I can give them to my amigos here...now I even want those little blue lights everyone has on their cars too.....sorry for the tiff I started amigos...back to your corners you two.

Yes, it still has to do with your ego, but I guess you do not understand that. But back to the topic of stickers.

OK, you quote where I wrote that it was Shari who suggested the sticker and then you AGAIN have to say you did not suggest it. I never said you did???

Again, I really hope the new owners will NOT allow ANY stickers because they are eye pollution----but, it is their decision to make, not mine nor Shari's.

Again, my sentiment about it being egomaniacs wanting to put their stickers everywhere was about EVERYONE---not just you---strange that you read it as being about you.

The only other reason I see for stickers etc. is the promotion of business, and it is still eye pollution. Nothing like sitting in a restaurant and trying to see out a window covered with that junk.

Well, the good thing is that while business is often promoted on this forum in very indirect ways, this thread was posted as a very up front promotion of a new business because we really like the owners. So, as long as you whine about being picked on, and tell everyone how wonderful you are, the thread will stay on top.

Liking stickers has nothing to do with being an egomaniac. Besides, I am not stupid or totally unaware. We have brought down lots of stickers for individuals and they love them.

Jesus has plans of having snack type food. He mentioned ceviche, chips, etc. However, like most businesses, I imagine it won't all happen at one time.

I don't think he will have a full blown restaurant. His sister, Gloria, who had the restaurant at the hotel now has the restaurant at her house by the main beach in town. They tore down the one at the hotel, but another sister, Yoli, is running a small restaurant out of a couple of the rooms at the hotel so I doubt he will open a restaurant any time soon.

It really is quite small, but who knows, if it works, maybe they will expand.

It would cool if say one day a week he had a bbq or food. There was a place in Pescadero that had burgers on Thursdays only. Everyone would show up with a Ballena or two and enjoy. Ceviche works for me, though. I'll be there in a month.

My suggestion. Get a good recipe for wings. Every week have a (pick a day) evening BBQ making only wings. Serve them with a couple of dipping sauces. No other food unless it's pre-packed such a potato chips. This gets them in the food business without any investment other than the BBQ and something to serve the wings and sauces in. If things go well, expand down the road.

A Happy Hour would be nice too.

Disclaimer - I love good wings.

I apologize, sincerely as it is not my intention to annoy others even if it is a two way street. I do let him irritate me when he talks for everyone, defines Baja and Nomads according to his definitions, inserts his politics at every turn when it does not belong anywhere except in off-topic, and then there is the kayak incident that I won't repeat here that speaks to his character.

However, on this thread, I really was speaking in generalities, but I did make the mistake of only quoting him---my mistake.
He really is not worth the time or effort. Besides, if stickers appear in the new bar, maybe the one that has the X over the smiling sun will appear. It is my favorite.:lol:

I will, however, try to do better and simply ignore him---it is, afterall simply a forum.

I very much agree with you, well almost. He does know a lot about parts of Baja and does share his knowledge as do a lot of people here. I have and do enjoy his information about things about which he has knowledge. High Road? No, that I cannot agree with---I found that out the hard way the first time I disagreed with him about a place he liked---old history.

And yes, I know I have stepped on toes---even at times when I didn't know it, and it will probably happen again. But I hereby promise to try and ignore all of his threads and posts---unless he attacks a friend, then that is different.

They probably would like that picture you have of Martillo by the bar---I have given a few before pix to them to keep, and the one with Martillo is a good one.

Wonder if there is room for a dance floor---they are planning on a deck in front, but I am not sure how big.

Okay, Barb count me in. Can't wait to see the Bomb Squad all together. We will rock... we need some clothing and hats. I am getting images as I write. I've always been partial to Bomber jackets.

I DID A STICKER ON A THINGY IN LA BAJA

We are going to make a lot of good memories here. And the sunsets....those will be good to. Can't wait! Would love to be there opening day....what a hoot that would be.

I think we may get in a bit of trouble! Can you imagine all the "girls" at the bar, hopefully one of the husbands, can come and get us all!

All the girls at the bar sounds like a good reason for me to go fishing....

Bajaboy - 6-5-2009 at 08:41 AM

I wonder what kind of duty one might pay at the border for a pole (for pole dancing)?

I'm proud to be a Nomad and like it when I see Got Baja stickers on other vehicles as it gives me an excuse to chat them up and find out who they are in nomadville...so yes, usually the got baja stickers bring a smile.

I guess I have just immersed too well into this culture....I must admit, I wasnt much of a sticker person before moving here...but now find myself asking for them so I can give them to my amigos here...now I even want those little blue lights everyone has on their cars too.....sorry for the tiff I started amigos...back to your corners you two.

The only pole I think they will have is the one holding up the speaker that is holding up the roof----thank goodness.

BMG - 6-6-2009 at 08:31 AM

The pole dancing should be good for a few laughs.
