What do Nomads want to see on TV?

Don't stop me now. This is not specifically a Baja thing but it is definetly a Baja Nomad thing. I have been watching more TV lately because the fish will not bite. I am amazed at the current TV schedule with Bizarre Foods, a guy eating grubs and chicken snot crepes in Africa, an hour of people being killed by their pets, Ex Divas who now do dumpster diving, musical animal sexual mistakes, etc. ad nauseum.

Through it all I never considered what my fellow Nomads watch or what they might prefer. I think I know some of their bents and biases but it would be very interesting to hear from them about the kinds of TV programs not on the airwaves now, that they would find engaging.

I'm not asking what you watch now: NASCAR, Bill Maher or How to Stop Killing Innocent Children and build More Defined Abs.

I'm asking "WHAT NEW SHOWS WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE?" Asked another way: What new or original forms of electronic entertainment can you envision, concoct, find a market for that would be sure to please some of our members?

More Baja news and pictures is a given but the room for more has no boundaries I can imagine.

Osprey, you need to develop a new hobby! Underwater basket weaving would have to be better than most "Reality TV"! How about seducing your wife? Taking more pics of nature? Clean out the refrigerator? Start a local raffle to guess the # of grains of sand in a 5-gallon water bottle....of course, you'd have to count then a couple times to come up with an accurate count!

The reason I love Baja is NO TV and no newspaper. Don't have to worry about all the crap happening in the US and can remain stress free.

yup! We are in Baja full-time and watch little to no TV...other than cooking shows on Food Network or PBS! Must come clean that we did TIVO the Number One Ladies' Detective Agency (after reading many of the books) and just watched the pilot. It's a great show and we look forward to watching the rest of the series!

I'm glad you didn't ask what shows I'd like to see returned to general viewing because I would have to say "Mr. Ed." and "The Jackie Gleason Show".

I did apply to, and send an audition video to Survivor... Baja gals are too tough, I guess. I never heard back.

What new shows would I like to see? I can't think of anything that hasn't been previously viewed. I like to watch the weather site on Mia's board. Does that count?

I'd love a camera perched on the top of a cactus to catch a day in the life of a cardon. Maybe it could be fashioned to look like an Osprey so it would go incognito.

When we open the door to our trailer in Bahia we call it "The Dolphin Channel". It's a morning tradition to open the door, grab a cup of coffee, jump back in bed and watch the dolphin cruise by, watch the bay wake up.

I'd like to be able to turn on the flat screen here in the states and sit back in my office chair and watch Baja life pass by, to see what I'm missing by not being there. The pesky Seagull that squacks on the neighbor's roof would be a refreshing sound compared to the sound of our teenager's radio station.

I agree with Fred, but to a degree, with an "however"; Baja USED to be no TV, no newspaper, no internet. No worries unless that mushroom cloud developed over the Sea of Cortez.

There wasn't any news unless you had a fresh battery to put in your AM radio, that only worked when you sat at that certain place at the end of the launch ramp. When someone new came into town they would tell you the latest, fill you in. Maybe they would have a newspaper, it wouldn't matter if it was a week or two late, it was new news.

Pay per view Baja.

The film crew has to be made up of crusty old baja farts who know what baja used to be, and have come to terms/accepted the changes, and are trying to keep it all in today's perspective without loosing any of the romance that put Baja in our hearts in the first place.

I'd pay for it.

Boy, Osprey, what a dumb question! No offense meant, but TV really sukks, and I can't believe you are even asking such a question :lol:

OK, with that out of the way I will answer the question as I choose to hear it, not as asked. I confess to being occasionally pulled toward Bill Maher and Jon Stewart (I prefer JS-- much more relevant). That said, I would never turn on the evil appliance, but my husband, who you all know, does watch from time to time.
Personally, I might be inclined to check in on the food network or HGTV--- oh, maybe 2 or 3 times a year, say if I have the flu. We have Star Choice now, we used to have Sky. I really miss Bandamax.

OK, now on to the question as asked: NOTHING!!!!!. Well, maybe one big explosion. But I don't want it to harm my lovely kelly green wall behind the TV. :biggrin:

Bizarre Foods is a fun show... Catch it often when channel surfing.

We mostly like to watch movies... We have a growing DVD collection and rent new stuff we think we will like... and buy it when it is priced low.

Other than news, I enjoy the History Channel, Nat'l. Geographic Channel, and the only show we watch regular for entertainment is 'House'.

News in the morning, then turn TV off and use the box for music for most of the day. Run the sound through my surroundsound system. Million choices with no CD or record changes or running out of power MP3 players. 4.30pm. National news, followed by Jeopardy. Maybe Dateline, if it's interesting. Wife may watch the occasional movie.
I like major sports, especially Soccer, which is abundant on Starchoice. Like reruns of Seinfeld and Mash, my kind of humor. Used to watch Leno at times before turning in, but now that O'Brien took over, gave it a week and will turn in 1/2 hour earlier. The guy stinks.

For new shows, I would love for Seinfeld to make a comeback. Hard to have the same success as with the old crew, but would without doubt be successful. Great writers.

(blush) the Young and the Restless! In Spanish or English! I hardly ever watch tv but confess to liking that garbage if a show. I also love all Law and Order shows. When I'm in baja I watch more tv than i do at home if my room has a tv. In the U.S., I usually only watch tv once a month or less. I could easily handle not having a tv 'cept it's how i use my internet and my young daughter and I would curl up our toes and die with no internet access!

If someone came up with some sort of an intelligent real world combination of Junk Yard Wars, Building DaVinci, Myth Busters and McGuyver I'd watch. Leave the silly costumes, and the marooon on DaVinci, and the giant flaming explosions in Hollywood, but give us people with huge imagination, widely based skill sets, reasonable mental health, and meaningful challanges to demonstrate their enginuity. Flavor liberally with elements of Robinson Crusoe and Tom Hanks' island. OK, now you really know too much about me!

I can always do with a good laugh, so I like the funny commercials shows, especially the international ones, they're WAAYY more fun than US ones. And the funny home videos are always a fav. Can't have too much funny in your life.

"Lost"????? I tried to watch that when it started, I think I'd need 2 weeks and the dvd box set to get caught up on that one. After a couple of vinos the minute (that's my-NOOT, not Mi-nut) plot changes get lost. (get it....LOST?!?)

Actually, what do I want to see MORE of on TV? Well, as for us, there are enough dedicated channels for food, animals, travel, health, religion, porn, sports, cartoons........... from someone who's had full access for a while now, I think that if you can't find something of interest on the tube......GET A BOOK!

there's always something to watch, if you have all the channels.
