HERMOSILLO, Mexico (CNN) -- Parents in northern Mexico on Sunday began to bury the children who died in a horrific day-care fire as Mexican
authorities raised the death toll from the blaze to 41.
A large crowd of mourners turned out for a mass funeral for six of the victims Sunday afternoon in Hermosillo, about 200 miles (320 kilometers) south
of the U.S. border. The cause of Friday's fire at the ABC Day Care remains unknown, but investigators concluded that the fire did not start inside the
building, said Eduardo Bours, the governor of Sonora state.
Neighbors described parents arriving at the day-care center completely desperate, seeing it engulfed in flames and knowing there was no way to get the
children out. The building had two doors, one of which was padlocked shut, and windows were too high for the children to reach.
Some of them rammed their vehicles into the building to try to free the trapped children, witnesses told CNN.

Too bad for the Kids and the Families, But it's the kind of thing that happens the world-over on a regular basis.

Is there any explanation why or if the caretakers ran out and left all the children inside to burn...? Or, were there not enough adults for the number
of kids at this place?
I am sure there will be a lot of explaining to do...
Very very tragic and I grieve for the mothers and fathers who left their babies at such a place.Bajahowodd - 6-8-2009 at 10:33 AM
There's no question that this facility would have fallen short on many levels with respect for being a licensed facility NOB. But, what was wrong,
illegal or criminal is realy up to the Mexicans to sort out. Yes. it is an awful tragedy.

I can't even imagine there is anything such as a business fire inspection program.
In fact, at least here in Rosarito, you can't get a business license without one. But just like everything in Mexico, if you're not in compliance you
simply pay the inspector.
Don't know the facts...pure speculation but what if this were the case and a victim's parent had ever paid mordida to an inspector? Or, an
inspector's child was among the victims?

Now watch the government drop this like a bad habit. It just came out on the news that the childcare center was owned and operated by high-level
politicians in Sonora. If that isn't bad enough, one of the owners is a cousin of Felipe Calderon's wife!!

There are safety codes to abide by and guarantee the people's safety. There are rules and regulations and of course, there are those who collect a
paycheck every other week to enforce the rules.
On this case and unfortunately on many more to come, I am sure, corruption played a very important role.
Lots of dirty facts will surface in the investigation but it will be stopped and hidden when and if it involves politicians and/or influential people.
I could not believe the news. Imagine the scene inside that "storage room": children's little bodies burned, some dead, many crying and dying..... it
is just incredible and what makes it worst is the fact that it all shouldn't have happened and couldn't have happened should the corrupt people in
charge had done their job...
Something similar happened some time ago in Mex city. The "News Divine" discotheque burned. Lots of youngsters died because someone closed the only
door to prevent them from leaving without paying their checks...
Now the grieving families of the Hermosillo children claim justice. There is no justice for this. No dead child will come back to life. There will be
also many children who will bear the scars for the rest of their lives..... all of this because a corrupt bunch of idiots who can't think straight.
