Saul's Palapa Mulege

Russ - 6-11-2009 at 05:41 PM

Went to Mulege today for provisions. We had planned to eat at Scott's El Candil but he wasn't open at 11am and we were hungry. I hadn't been to Saul's for about 2 years and wanted a combination plate. We were his only clients and he did the cooking while his son waited on us. I can't remember a better combination plate anywhere! His roof is a little ragged and he says there aren't many people but he's hanging in there. My friend had the scallops and was very impressed too. I know the Palapa has been reviewed before but with all the new place in Mulege that are being reviewed I thought I'd remind you of a old favorite.

Right on Russ...Saul's is always good...You know that your going to get a good value...I eat there at least once a week...

I have eaten there dozens of times myself and never been ill and the food is not bad.. Only once was the steak over-MSG'd. I don't do MSG. I've had some pretty good coco prawns there.

Can you please give me directions to Sauls ?

tripledigitken - 6-12-2009 at 01:08 PM

Frank,

As you head south out of Mulege towards the Pemex, between the turn off to the Serinidad and the Pemex it is on the right side of Highway 1. Like it's name suggests it is a Palapa styled restaurant that is enclosed.

I agree tasty food and nice owners!

Ken

My favorite dish is the Pescado Frito, using whatever the catch of the day is.

Right on the Interstate, south of town, before the Pemex on the right

Yup! Good food. After your meal, go next door to the 11/7 store and say hello to Sofia.

We ate there once with Capt Mike and his wife. The food was outstanding and we brought in our own bottle of wine. No problema with that.

Thanks for introducing us to that place Capt Mike! We have been back there each time we visit Mulege and have never been disappointed.

right on Bob, one of the best values around and stumbling distance from my old digs.

The food and service there is always good and they make a killer margarita. A bunch of us girls play 31 and have lunch there on Wednesdays. I heard that once when the Mulege river flooded several people went up to Saul's place for shelter. Saul gave them table clothes to keep them warm and food and drinks and refused to charge them anything. Maybe someone who was there can jump in and tell more of the story. Anyway, Saul is great guy and my husband and I eat there often, and if you are ever there for breakfast try his house omelet it is to die for.

The 11-7 is now Vista Azual. Changed the name in May. She was facing a law suit from 7-11 because of a similarity of the name. I heard someone took a picture of the sign and it ended up in the wrong hands

Bob, remember that he makes money selling drinks there. Why not support him? I had a customer bring in a few bottles of wine with our approval a few years back. We had no no idea they would proceed to "treat the house" needless to say, we changed our "corkage" policy. Thanks for understanding.
