It is a nice picture and a beautiful creature.

Wiley, hard to tell, but if I had just one guess I would say it is the plume of a sea cucumber.

Looks like the shell of a limpet. Ours in california are usually dark. But I suppose there's no reason they can't be red.
Maybe a new species. We'll name it
Acmea comitanii
.
