Mag Bay / Lopez Mateos / San Carlos

I need advice on where to stay. We are pulling our 19' center console down in July and have never been in the area. Additionally I need advice on boat ramps, fishing inshore and offshore, gas availability, where to eat, and any other good current info is appreciated.

I have only fished Mag Bay once. I fished out of San Carlos and stayed at the Hotel Brennan. It's a long run out of the bay so you would want to overnite on board at Bahia Santa Maria or go through Mag Bay Outfitters.

Bill Erhardt has that place dialed and he fishes out of Lopez Mateo. He could give the best advise.

I agree, Bill is the guy to check with.

Let us know how it went. I may drive up and join you.

You can U2U any Nomad, but he seems to read the fishing posts every few days.

bajajurel.......I fish offshore outside Mag Bay in the fall, launching in Puerto Lopez Mateos where there is a new ramp and launching is no problem regardless of the tide. I anchor out a lot and sleep on my boat, but occasionally stay in a motel in PLM. Access to the Pacific is either through Boca de Soledad to the north, or if fishing south, down the estero to the entrado at San Carlos and out. Both are tricky and require the help of somebody with local knowledge the first few times. Send me a message if you have specific questions, or if you want me to get you in touch with Ruben Duran who is the primo guide out of PLM. I know very little about fishing in the estero, but Ruben can help both inside the estero and offshore, as well as in learning to negotiate the boca and/or the estero south to San Carlos.

Thanks Bill. I am sending you a separate email with some questions. Good reporting on Mexfish!!

We always stay at the Feliz Camaron and, if nothing else, eat there. Saul, the son of the owners, really knows the mangroves and his wife, Judy(nice name!) speaks English.
My husband stayed in the new place because he had one of our dogs. It is brick duplexes. He said that it was ok too.

Thanks. What did you pay per night? Was there a room for 3? Was there parking for a boat / trailer?

bajajudy - 6-19-2009 at 04:06 PM

I seem to remember it being around $20 and you can park your rig right in front. I think that one room had 3 beds...this is Feliz Camaron.
I will ask Jim about the other place.
