What about a MALARRIMO trip this summer?

Been reading about these trips and it got me thinking.....

Anybody "thinking" about going to Malarrimo (or even a round trip out to Eugenia and Abreojos this summer)?

Yes, please take photos of the canyon going in... it's the original road to Malarrimo Beach, not the fish camp road from Tortugas. I hear it is like a mini grand canyon.

I was so excited to finally get out there after years of wanting to...but what a huge disappointment it was...oh yeah, there is lots of stuff on the beach...but you get real tired of looking at plastic garbage...it's literally covered in garbage at the high tide mark...some old foam floats but tons of garbage...and a few bottles with some skanky booze still left in them.

there is some driftwood and a few big old mahogany logs that cry out for an alaska mill chain saw....man would I love a few boards of some of those!
It is a very exposed beach and the wind sandblasts you in the afternoon...not a great place to camp...great place to get stuck and show off your skills at getting out...hopefully.

But I'm game to tag along with bajaboy again just for the adventure.

Shari, that was our observation as well. Definitely worth the trip to say we've been there but certainly not a destination for your vacation.

DK, those who would describe the road in as a "mini Grand Canyon" have never seen the Grand Canyon. Maybe I was too busy staring at all the places where the unfortunate ones had to dig out to notice the majestic beauty of it.......dt

Yea DK, nothing like that on the way to Mallarimo, maybe they were referring to the "canyons" made by the stuck vehicles.

BTW, I'm not trying to scare anyone about getting stuck. We drove in and out in a big rig without spinning a tire.....luck? Maybe. Skill? Not likely.....dt

Mark Naugle did a great trip report several years ago that was written up on the Off Road .com web sight about his trip into to Malarrimo with two other vehicles and one getting stuck in the mud on the way in. You have to stay on sand. Any dirt that looks dry may not be. It may not be as big as the Grand Canyon but it still looks pretty neat.

East of Playa Malarrimo is an Estero, called Estero Mike McMahan in the almanac, and it is a mud trap. I road my MC toward it when I was there and quickly decided to turn around. It was more fun to chase the coyote pack down the beach to the west.

lots of people drive to the right on the beach towards the estero and that is a famous place for losing vehicles...it's like quicksand there...aguas!
