Looking for a place to spend a week with kids

robrt8 - 6-19-2009 at 10:09 PM

Can anyone recommend a place to spend a week near a beach with this friggin' economy?
We're willing to drive, sleep in the van. Anything.
Thanks

what time of the year? what activities are you looking for?

Yah, and how do you like your climate in summer? a) hot with warm water or b)cool with cold water.

a) San Felipe, Bahia San Luis Gonzaga, Bahia de los Angeles, Bahia Concepcion. (depending how far you want to drive)

b) Erendira area, San Quintin area

Stay home, BBQ and rent some movies or games.

When our kids were small we used to spend about a week in the summer camping at Morro Sto. Domingo, a little north of GN. It's not too hot, the coves are calm for the kids to play around, really good surf fishing, etc. It would be a great place with a couple of kayaks too, but we didn't have any back then.

Hey rob...we get lots of families here...the kids love it and its not too hot for them in the summer...check your U2U

Thanks for the ideas. I'll look into them.
We're trying to leave next week. Hoping to find a quiet super-low-budget place with at least a kid-safe beach.

Campo La Jolla in Punta Banda just south of Ensenada. Not too long of a trip, great beaches, and of course, great Nomads in the area. Beachbum1A says Fred is camped out there this week.

I also vote for Campo La Jolla in Punta Banda. Great Beach and the kids can run crazy....AND Uncle Beachbum1A might show them how to fish!!!!

Ok, let's face it! We live in the best place in the whole world! Anywhere in Baja is good, but here, is heaven!

Estero Beach Hotel has a campground. Great security. Pool and other goodies, as well as access to the ocean. It's a first class operation.

I'll third the suggestion of La Jolla Campground. You can put the kids to work digging you a private hot tub to soak in at low tide. There's also tide pooling at the southern end of the beach and miles of beach to walk on heading north. There are horses for rent within walking distance. The campgound is inexpensive, electricity available as well as showers. There is security on hand at all times. There's a mini market and a couple of small eateries right next door. The kids can ride their bikes around camp and there may be boogie boards for rent if you don't have your own. If you like to fish, Vonny's Fleet is just up the road, across from the elementary school.

La Bufadora is right up the road and is fun for kids; there's a lot of "stuff" there for them to beg to spend their allowance on, as well as a couple of restaurants for when you feel like eating out.

Have a fun trip regardless of your destination.

Or......If you want the kids to get some true cultural interchange inBaja, you can drop them off at my house and I'll teach them to pull weeds.

robrt8, Where are you leaving from. This may make a difference as to how far south you will want to go.As howodd mentioned, Estero Beach is a great place for kids.I spent all of my summers there as a kid as did my kids.It is on a bay, great fishing, swimming, and bikes are a must! There is a recreation room, two pools and hot tubs, crab catching, big beaches, and a good restraunt overlooking the bay. Also available are jetski rentals and rides on the "banana" behind a boat.It is an awesome family destination. The campgrounds are under trees and grassy, very well maintained. To check it out go to Esterobeachotel.com Also laundry facilities and a small store , nice bathrooms, hot water.
