Boat mooring in Baja

ncampion - 6-20-2009 at 03:25 PM

Does anyone know if it is OK to drop a mooring just off-shore to tie a boat to? Would a beach concession be necessary to do this or is it just "out of the question". :?::?:

Check with the Port Capt. in Loreto.

I put my Panga in and out and kept it moored in front of Rancho Sonrisa for several years.
I would not advise keeping it there over a long period of time as the Equipt. would disappear.

Did know some folks who lived on rattlesnake beach, just south of Puerto Escondido, and had their boat moored in front of their palapa for years. Never seemed to be any problem. However, with the new Marine Park regulations more enforced, I would check with the Park office and get the right info. Should be no problem, but who knows. This is Mexico.

Back in the 80's & 90's, we spent our winters on Rattlesnake. We kept our boats (small ones i.e. 15' in length. and some of our friends who camped there, moored on either anchors, with pull in abilities. Never had a problem with being told we couldn't do that. But with the marine park, I'd sure ask about it before "doing it"!!!!!! That was a way of life that unless your've done it, you have no idea about how good it is. Friends visiting around morning campfires, sharing coffee & stories. Evenings that included campfires, and those that played instruments shared their talent. We even took down a battery operated piano. It doesn't get any better. One winter a single female showed up, and her singing talents amazed us!!! Another winter a couple showed up that were incredible artists. They eventually ended up in town with their studio. Understand they have moved to the mainlandI do understand that it doesn't "fit" for everyone.
