Tracing Cowboys screening in San Diego (discussion thread)

Ken Cooke - 6-23-2009 at 02:50 PM

I'm in talks with the director of the film Tracing Cowboys, and I wanted to know of any Nomads that would be interested in coming to the screening of this movie?

I figure the location for the screening should be in central San Diego County since so many Nomads live in the San Diego region (some in N.Baja).

How much money would each person be willing to pay in order to get the director and leading lady Megan Edwards to appear and sign autographs? $5? $10 per person?

If we hold this event at a restaurant, would Nomads be willing to purchase a $6 sandwich? A restaurant would be best since the facility would provide parking, restrooms, making logistics easily planned.

A young Englishman searches across Mexico for his lost love. Arriving on Los Dias de Muerto he begins his search that leads him into another world.

Ken,

Count us in for two. Food and drink would be a positive.

Ken,

Yes, I would love to see it and can bring a few people.
I live in North County SD and have a place near Rosarito. Would like an opportunity to connect with more Nomads.
Can put the word out to some I know too when we have a date.

Let me know if you want to review thoughts on locations in S.D. Off the top of my head, I can recommend these to begin with:

- Private meeting room in Hotel Circle hotel that might seat as many as 70+ theatre-style. She'd charge simply for use of the room, and include a water station (approx $150 flat-rate, an additional $10 tip to the guy setting up the room is however appreciated). People would be on their own for food costs - no outside food allowed though, have to buy it from their cafe or at the bar.

- Private meeting room in Kearny Mesa pizza place - seats no more than about 50. Need to guarantee 20, and it's all-you-can-eat pizza, salad and soda for somewhere around $12/head including tax (and I think gratuity too).

Private party - $20/person - lets say $10 goes to Pizza place, $10 goes to Movie Director. I think its worth it, but in today's economic climate, we'd have to sell tickets to make sure we'd have a success on our hands.

I'm waiting to hear back from the director to discuss terms related to presenting this movie. I'll let everyone know what he says since every bit of publicity he gets is good publicity for this project of his.

I've attended alot of great meetings and film screenings with this group. They gather at the Encinitas Library which provides a nice room that could accomodate 100+ and/or they might be able to provide other location suggestions closer to SD. Good group to network with to promote the film too I believe.

I'm waiting to hear back from Jason (the director). Coordinating this will be a lot more work than my 4WD trips. So, when he writes back, I'll find out what kind of venue he is more interested in. But, a library sounds good as well. We'll see what he is more interested in.
