As a newcomer on this board, I hope I can ask a question right away. This questions bothers me for quite some time and hopefully somebody has an
answer.
I am living in BCS now for more than half a year. I am holding a current FM-3 which is due to extension. I was asking the INM in Santa Rosalia about
flying to Asia via Europe.
The answer was: You got to come here and request a letter which has to be stamped at the airport at the time of departure.
When coming back that letter needs another stamp at the arrival.
BUT: The duration of my trip can not be more than one month!
I don't believe it. Am I living in a jail or what?
Or is the INM harassing me?
Thanks for any answer based on serious knowledge.Bob and Susan - 6-25-2009 at 02:31 PM
the ONLY time you need a letter from immrigration
is when you are renewing
then you get the 30 day letter
after its renewed its good for a year and you can come and go as you pleasesquid - 6-25-2009 at 04:14 PM
Thanks Bob and Susan,
it might be absolutely corret what U R saying, as my FM-3 is currently w/ the INM for renewal.
But, somewhere I learned that an FM-3 holder is requested to tell the INM at the airport @ the time of departure that you are an FM-3 holder.
Or is that a completely different issue???
So, if I'm understanding your post correctly, that 30 day letter is ONLY for the time my FM-3 is with the INM for renewal?
Correct? If I got it back after renewal : not an issue anymore? Well I'm intending to go in fall anyway. So that guy in S.R. can kick m. a.. anyway
(sorry for the french)
Thanks again!
P.S. I know you guys from mouth-to-mouth P.R. here in Mulege. You R having a beach resort south of Mulege, right?Bob and Susan - 6-25-2009 at 04:50 PM
yes thats us
the lighthouse place about 10 miles south of town
we use a middleman to renew our visas to avoid conflict
i've had to get the 30 day letter several times too when i was working
it was about $20 extra bucks
we got an fm2 this year so in 5 years we can avoid these issues in the future
good lucksquid - 6-25-2009 at 04:55 PM

may I put the other question up again: Do I have to report @ the airport (departure) that I am an FM-3 holder ?

If you were driving in and out of the country it would not be a big deal.....
However flying out and back your FM3 needs to be stamped by airport immigration and they give you a piece of paper that has to be presented when you
return.
You might want to drive to the San Diego airport for your departure and return and then not have to deal with immigration at all..... just a thought.

Squid: Can you not deal with the INM office by the Universidad in Loreto??
They are very nice guys there, no bullsh*t attitudes, and speak excellent English.
