Went both ways on Hwy 1 last week. Every so often someone would refer to the horrible road words.
It was a horrible road thirty years ago. It was rounded in the center, which was good because it was too narrow for two cars comfortably but the
slope made them lean away from each other. THIS LAST TRIP WE FOUND THE WIDENED LANES WERE EVEN BANKED FOR TURNS IN SOME PLACES.
There were even center lines and the road is wide enough they put in lines for the shoulder AND SOME PLACES REFLECTORS FOR THOSE LINES.
All the old potholes we joked about we pretty non existent. WE USED TO SAY THE ROAD WAS IN GOOD SHAPE, IF IT ONLY HAD BUG EATERS. THE BIG MAC
EATERS WERE BAD. Bugs referred to VW bugs The Big Macs were 18wheelers. These pothole in places were only inches apart. Just enough to get your
tire out of one before falling into another.
There was a stretch of dirt road construction in Vizcaino they are getting a new look.
There is a long stretch of dirt construction south of Mananedro (Spelled wrong) The rest of the road work has nice paved bypasses.
I know its horrible for you who need 4 lanes going ninety mph but for Baja travelers it's great.

You're probably due for an oil change depending on where you live/how far the drive to the border.805gregg - 6-28-2009 at 06:04 PM
Two lanes doing 90 is ok by me. But only if I'm following the speeder. I like a fast test car in front, incase of troubles.comitan - 6-28-2009 at 06:11 PM

900 miles, and yes an oil change is in order.
Also a time line Left La Paz Wed. 6AM to San Diego, Azuzsa, back to La Paz Sat. 2PM. And yes I've done it many times, its the norm for me.
No its not for anyone to do.

805gregg You reminded me of another hazard we don't have any more thanks to tech.
used to be you didn't want to be in front of a big rig going down hill (They were gathering speed to get up the next hill) and you sure didn't want
to be behind them going up hill (When the speed they gathered ran out they were lucky to go up the rest of the way at 5mph) Made for a longer hard
trip, but newbies don't have to worry about that.
still take blind curves with the thought, on your side is a slow truck and coming is a fast car. No matter how you travel don't take risks.osoflojo - 6-29-2009 at 05:31 PM

Its on a Chevy Astro AWD, with an air scoop on the hood, the filter sits in the scoop.
