Is that what is left after the autopsy, I'd recognise that nose anywhere, is that a glove on his flipper? He did look rather pasty at the end. It never takes long for the vultures to circle does it? eh, hmm, er, looks like I may have joined them too, the vultures that is.

What a sad picture!

I think I see a squarish hole near the tail, and another one just left of the seagull's head. Could this be the result of trawling or netting? How do you think he died, Russ?

The squarish holes could be the work of the vulture. The eyes are the first to go. Probably for the same reason that shari is attracted to them.

Now that the tide has mostly stopped moving the carcus around the vultures are doing their thing. I must have taken 30 pics of these guys on my bulkhead waiting for the tide to recede.

Not! It's going to STINK very soon so tomorrow I'll try to send it out to sea. Besides, it's illegal to have their bones with out a permit. Everything needs a permit!

Well, maybe YES! This mother loves it. Almost daily we talk about how much our Bronze Breasted Turkey poults resemble the turkey vultures of Baja.



We had two dolphins wash up on the beach in front of our place once. I buried them thinking that I would dig them up at a later date and have a reconstruction party. I didn't take into consideration how much the beach changes with each season, so to this day I've never found those two dolphins.

They will stink, but if you have a place high enough to put them where the wind will carry the stink off, then coat them with bleach and let the sun and time take it's course. We have a few whale bones that have been bleaching out on our garage roof that are ready to be brought back down for yard art.

A full dolphin skeleton would be very cool. Specially if you give it a baseball hat.

This is probably a noobie questions, but what is up with the mouth of this dead dolphin? I'm just not "seeing" the picture. Is there a "lure" in the dolphin's mouth? or is the dolphin jaw hacked away so what we see is the insides of the mouth...as referenced by the "research" comment? Something about the head doesn't look right, and I'm guessing many know what it is.

I'm sorry to be so graphic, and so stupidly Noobie.... but I sincerely want to know.

Ann, you're not alone with your inquiry. Everyone that has gotten close to it notices the mutilation of its mouth. So my guess it it was caught in one of the seiner nets and they hacked it up to remove it. There are hundreds (thousands) of dolphin out there and they eat what the seiners want. Guess who's gonna win in any confrontation? I don't want to start bashing the seiners here. There are other threads on that.
