The following is the wording now used in Progressive's Boat insurance regarding Mexico:
INSURING AGREEMENT - MEXICO COVERAGE
In addition to the territory specified in the "General Provisions" section of this policy, if you pay the premium
for Comprehensive Coverage, coverage under this Part IV shall apply to any loss that occurs within any state, territory, or
possession of Mexico, including ocean waters within seventy-five (75) nautical miles of its coast.
Bold items are from the policy contract.
This verbiage is a little clearer than the old policy and changes the ocean limits from 50 miles to 75 nautical miles.
For those of you who may have missed the thread some years back, Progressive coverage in Mexico allows you to list your boat/trailer on your Mexican
vehicle policy but at ZERO value, lowering your cost to the tow vehicle only. This (according to Lewis and Lewis) means that the liability portion of
your vehicle insurance will be in place should the boat/trailer cause an accident (comes unhooked, etc) but there is no comp on your boat/trailer.
However, this is covered through the Progressive policy. In other words, if the boat becomes separated from your truck and causes damage to
something/somebody, you are covered under the liability section of you tow vehicle policy, but only if you list the boat/trailer on that policy.
Repairs to the boat/trailer are made from the Progressive policy.
To my knowledge, only Progressive has this coverage under their California policy for tow-able boats.
FYI: I have a Stated Value policy of $30,000 (under total loss, they pay the stated value): premium is $171/year for an 18' CC Fishrite/115hp merc w/
10hp kicker.
