I have been stopping for raw and hot clam c-cktails in San Quintin for years.
I just had one of each yesterday (total: 90 pesos) and both were top notch at Mariscos California.
I have tried some other vendors here, and the only difference I've seen is the silverware and bowls. The fancy places with the ceramic bowls and
metal spoons charge quite a bit more for the same (or less) amount of food. Makes me worry a little, considering these shacks have no running
water...
Nope, California is the one I like with lots of saltines, tostadas, salsas, limes, BYOB, plastic cups and spoons, filled to the top. Sometimes free
ceviche too. A normal person leaves with a 40-peso bill for a raw clam c-cktail and 50 for a hot one. I have to have both...

You go past the hotel signs on the left, cross the bridge (heading south), and there are a bunch of shacks on both sides. Mariscos California is the
last on the right where the road splits.
I really love that place. Four large clams per c-cktail...you know, if you brought your own big bowl, I'm sure he'd fill it up. He's always trying
to cram more ingredients into the cup...

I know that shop and I also love love love it! Mariscos California -Blue sign - hwy 1 - leaving SQ if you are heading south...sooooo darn good!
Honestly one of the best ceviche / clam c-cktails on the peninsula-

We too have had the clams at the same place, plus dozens of oysters.
Great food and even better prices!
I am sure Ron (bajagringo) will endorse this place also.

Actually there are several great places for clams along the highway in San Quintin and Mariscos California is one of them. Personally I get mine fresh
from the same place where they get theirs - from the zona ostionera in the Bahia Falsa. It is a just a driver and a five iron from our place on the
beach and there are some good clam operations working over there as well...

do they "mine" clams from the bay or are they being trucked in from further south. they always temp us to stop but on the way south we're afraid to
get sick at the start of the vacation. on the way north we've "mined" our own until gorged.... so no need to stop.
edit: i know about the ostioneria, but is there an almejaria in the bay?

There are several clam operations around the bay as well. You will find that some of the most seasoned fishermen in the area have concessions and
crews working several different species simultaneously. Clams and oysters are two of the most common in the bay.
