Camp Gecko was our first foray into Mexico alone.
We still have fond memories of the Whale Shark boat tour Doc took us on:

paul we were there at exactly the same time in October of 2004 and we also ran into CeCe and Richard. They were delightful, really enjoyed talking to
them:

We also ran into the same whale sharks

Here is the last Camp Gecko web page when it still operated as a camp renting out cabins:

Here is the page where Doc gives the news that Camp Gecko is closed:

I really miss Camp Gecko before it became Villas de Gecko. I wish I had the means to lease one of the beachfront lots.

Here is what the website looks like today. I check it every morning for the temps. He hasn't updated his "news" in a while.

I take it from your post that you used to traval with an RV group in Mexico.. We used to call these big caravans the
fraidy cats as they were scared of their own shadow in Baja
I call us prudent. We went on exactly ONE caravan (albeit 42 days long). VERY glad we did.
We saw more of Mexico and learned more about Mexico in that one trip than we could have alone. Rail tour of Copper Canton with our RV on a flatcar
(can't do THAT any more). Had the top deck of a Ferry to Baja. Whale watching trip in GN. Drove Cabo to Tecate. etc, etc.
Most of all, on that trip we learned we had little to fear in Mexico and returned alone many times. And recommended Mexico to many others' many times.
Call us a fraidy cat if you will, but I'd say on the caravan score the Mexico glass was more than half full, not half empty.
best, paul
