I believe that El Vaquero is closed.
Tommy's Barefoot Bar has pretty good food and is right on the marina in La Playita. Cant beat the view. I highly recommend their shrimp
tacos...empanizada.
On Valerio Gonzalez just down a few blocks from the bus station is Cantina Mexicana...excellent al pastor, killer tacos gobernadora(not sure on the
spelling) which are shrimp and cheese grilled on a tortilla. They give you two tortillas so I split the goodies in half and make two tacos. I also
like their vampiro and la gringa. My husband almost always get the snapper entero frito. On our last visit, a friend got a burrito which was huge.
I love the pizza at the Baja Brewery. It is quite a scene most of the time..kinda loud. I also love the pizza at La Dulce.
There is a new place on the square called Molly's that has gotten good reviews(It is owned by Big Tony of Zippers, I believe) Another new place,
Suzies, above the office of the Yuca Inn(the old Senor Manana) that is supposed to have killer ribs.
Oh my, I am getting hungry. Ask again closer to your arrival because who knows what will still be open then

Good places to eat in San Jose; the Big Palapa on the bump street below the bus station, Buzzards bar and grill in La Laguna, Cactus Corner pizza,
wood-fired pizza on weekends at Zacatitos, East Cape, for high end food go to Local Eight (the Best!) and Ensalada in La Jolla for healthy food.lizard lips - 7-5-2009 at 08:43 AM

That is a great place in San Lucas!
snowcat...yep that big palapa restaurant is Cantina Mexicana.
Local 8 is great but so is Habaneros in the same strip mall.
Buzzards is also great...remember that they close early.
Zac's is quite a trek from San Jose but the owners are sure nice people and the food gets good reviews.

Local 8 is not on my recommended list. Very high prices. They charged us US$6 for a $1 bottle of water. Mediocre food.
My recommended restaurants in San Jose are Las Guacamayas, Los Michoacanos, El Chilar (although I haven't eaten there in quite awhile), and Suzy's
Loncheria on the bump street (now bigger bumps than ever!)
This place was recommended to us by local Mexican friends.
I avoid Hangman at all cost!
Tacos Rosy used to be recommended until we found some significant cleanliness issues with them and their prices went way up.

OXXO you are correct about the name...Tacqueria de Mexico
Zippers is one of the only, if not the only, place in San Jose to eat on the beach. Watching the surfing is free. Their fish and chips are legionary
as are their beer batter shrimp. I dont care for their shrimp c-cktail but it is huge. It is a great place to take first timers. The prices are
above average but not by much. I have never had a bad meal there.
Las Guacamayas and Los Michoacanos are in Chamizal. If you want a real treat...just across from Michoacan is a green and white tent awning and if you
walk through the door you are in store for the absolute best quesadillas in the world. There is a hand written sign that says Antojitos and tells

Just past the airport (San Jose)on the west side of the highway where it goes from 4 lanes to two lane is Restaurant Evaristo -- back off the highway
with a blue fascade ---best seafood in town and great tacos -- freshly made -- three of Rosy's equals one of these. Just don't sit near the juke box
unless you really like Ranchero! Prices are reasonable and the helping are large.
Best pasta in San Jose -- Buen Appetito -- across the road from the Rusty Putter on hotel row, in the strip mall. Very reasonable and great quality.JESSE - 7-5-2009 at 03:30 PM

A new place just opened...Pasquale's. It is between Local 8 and Habanero's
I have not tried it but that might be the place, if you just heard about it. There is also Pasaporte(that is not correct but close...I think that the
name means gossip in Italian) which is next to the Canadian consulate. And La Dulce has a wood burning oven..one of my favs is their pizza with fresh
arugula on top. I think that it is called the Gregorian..yummy.
Also Buen Appetito does pizza. Havent been there in some time but I do remember that their pizza was excellent..great pasta specials too.
We are having pizza for dinner....en casa!

how is that restaurant right near you with the huge palapas? Its at the intersection as you turn left towards Zacatitos. I think its called El Puente?
It looks cool although i couldnt find the entrance the other night on my way through and gave up. Ended up eating cacahuates and a ballena while
driving out that way to await the arrival of Andres.

Great info...since we live in CSL we are always interested in hearing of places in SJD to enjoy good food.
We too stopped eating @ Taco Rosy's but this way about 4 years ago when on our way to the airport we stopped in for some quick tacos. Needless to say
just as the plane was taxing down the runway, Rosy's tacos were wanting to make their emergency exit from our bodies. Not much fun holding onto a

That would be Muelle 69. As close as it is you would think that we would eat there often. That is not the case...does that tell you something. They
have descent tacos but their salsa bar is a joke. They also have an in house tequila that is excellent. Have a few of those and maybe the food will
taste better. The owner is a nice man but I dont think that he is very familiar with the restaurant biz.
As for Rosy's type tacos, Cabo Mama in the Mega food court is better.
Also, Dona Mecha(I know that is wrong but it sure is close) has great gorditas, tacos,breakfasts and a couple of other dishes that you may not be
familiar with. One is entomalados(I really should pay closer attention to how things are spelled although I would probably just forget as I have done
now) which are what most gringos would call cheese enchiladas and enfrijoladas which are tortillas with beans(duh really Judy?) and cheese. For some
reason I really like both of these. I believe that everything except breakfast is under 20pesos.

bj...the hubby and I laugh about go to Costco for a romatic tailgate dinner.
Sunset, tablecloth, pizza, salad, vino and candles to go along with the "Million Dollar" view!
