How many nautical miles is it following the coastline from Santa Rosalia to La Paz?

Not sure off the top of my head, but a quick look at Google earth would tell you.

How about a Baja Map, look at the scale, measuring tape and Voila, there's your answer.jeffg - 7-5-2009 at 08:51 AM
Probably around 220nm following the coast.AcuDoc - 7-5-2009 at 04:25 PM
I'm guessing Loreto would be about 140 miles to La Paz then. Trying to find out how much fuel I'll need for my boatDon Alley - 7-5-2009 at 05:30 PM
Someone must have a cruising guide; they give mileage between ports. Mine's in Loreto right now, and I'm knot.comitan - 7-5-2009 at 05:53 PM
142 miles via Google earth.AcuDoc - 7-5-2009 at 05:58 PM

Is there anywhere to get gas between Puerto Escondido and La Paz? In Agua Verde?comitan - 7-5-2009 at 06:11 PM
No, Possible from fish camps in an emergency. Best option would be San Evaristo.gnukid - 7-5-2009 at 06:30 PM
There are no other ports with gas docks between Loreto and La Paz but you may find a few fishing camps which have some gas at a premium. If you need
more gas couldn't you bring a few extra gallons in portable tanks?shari - 7-5-2009 at 07:26 PM
we have gotten gas for our little panga lots of times in agua verde from the fishermen and the ice house guy sells it out of drums too.AcuDoc - 7-5-2009 at 07:31 PM
I have a 16.5 foot Klamath center console 50hp 4 stroke. I get around 5-6 miles per gallon but I am going to count it at 4mpg.
I just found out how to use the google earth track so the longest stretch would be 145 miles, not counting fishing. I'm planning on carrying 50
gallons of gas. I have a 12 gal bow tank and a 6 gal aft tank. Then I'll carry five 6 gal cans. That would be 300 lbs in fuel.
Water is about 8 lbs per gallon and I'll carry 15 gallons per week so another 120 lbs. Say about 50 lbs max in gear totalling 365 lbs. Then my fat ass
225 lets total out it at 600 lbs grand total. Boat is rated at 1350 lbs including motor. I have no idea what it weighs but think I'll be fine.
Especially as fuel and water weight will decrease daily.
Trip from San Lucas Cove to La Ventana is about 340 miles not including extra fishing and side tripsAcuDoc - 7-5-2009 at 07:32 PM
I see the censored As* and put in burro...pretty funnyAcuDoc - 7-5-2009 at 07:35 PM
Just found out 250 lbs for the motor
Lets now say everything weighs 850 that gives me an extra 500 lbs. I feel pretty good about that.comitan - 7-5-2009 at 07:35 PM
I think you will have extra gas when you get here. Trolling will take a lot less gas but better safe than sorry.AcuDoc - 7-5-2009 at 09:30 PM

AcuDoc,
When are you going on this trip? Solo?
martin-ognukid - 7-5-2009 at 09:54 PM
You have plenty of supplies - 2 gallons of drinking water a day and 300 gallons of gas to go 342 miles. But you don't mention beer or tequila? That's
breaking the only rule in fishing!
I have found panga fisherman to be very kind and helpful out at the islands San Jose, Espirtu Santo and Ceralvo, if you run out just flag one down and
start trading something for gas, they can syphon from their tanks to yours. Or if you see a cruiser you could trade some of your fresh fish for their
icey c-cktail happy hour.
Have lots of fun and keep your hat on plus have spare and perhaps consider a leash from you to the boat at all times. AcuDoc - 7-5-2009 at 10:38 PM
50 gallons of fuel that weighs 300lbs. I figure there will be another 50 lbs of just stuff. Cervesa etc.
I wanted to go a couple months ago but it wasn't to be. So I'm shooting for next May. It all depends on the economy this next year.AcuDoc - 7-5-2009 at 11:07 PM

we saw a guy once going on a cruise with the vags out of loreto...
...when the vags did that kinda stuff
he thought he'd take everything for the trip on the boat
too heavy...spun a prop first day
i'd just make a plan to re-stock at different locations along the road
there's lots of people here that could assist

Fuel and water are my only real concerns. Once upon a time I was a hardcore backpacker so I know how to travel light. I'm planning on restocking in
Loreto for gas and water.
I'll need 6 gallons of water (50lbs.) and 50 gallons of gas (300lbs) per leg that weight around 350 lbs. I'll have a better clue once I finish the
first leg, SLC to Loreto/P. Escondido. The second leg will be Loreto/P. Escondido to La Paz. Another 300lbs for me and camping gear makes it 650lbs.
That is close to three guys in the boat. I think that should be fine even if it came too 700lbs. I'll also be saving weight as I am not taking my 14
gallon bait tank. Fuel and water weight will decrease daily as well.
I've had two big guys in the boat plus gear, 14 gallon bait tank, 24 gallons of fuel and 4 gallons of water with no problem. Also with another 30lbs
of fish in the box. that would run about 500lbs in people and gear, 110lbs for the bait tank, 32lbs in drinking water, 25 lbs fish and 144lbs of fuel
= 811lbs. Wow never thought about that before.
Typical trip is me and gear 275lbs, 110lbs bait tank, 16lbs water, 20lbs fish, 144 lbs fuel = 565lbs.
Thanks for you advice. You have made me take a hard look at things. Hopefully I'll meet some nomads on the way.desertcpl - 7-6-2009 at 06:10 PM

AcuDoc...Goes without saying... Take 3 oars for rowing. One extra in case you may need it, and dont forget a good set of tools for engine repair, and
two good anchors. A goood shade lash-up also is a must have. Have done the trip 3 times. Twice in a small dory and once by Kayak. Lots of friendly
fisherman and nice folks everywhere. Have fun. ++C++AcuDoc - 7-7-2009 at 06:27 PM
