June 20, 2009 - Drove Ensenada to Guerrero Negro – 380 Miles took 7 hours of driving time. South of Ensenada hit 2.2 miles of road construction.
Should have gassed up in San Quentin or El Rosario. Had to buy gas further down the road from someone who had it in barrels in the back of their
truck. We were happy to see them as we would not have made it otherwise. No traffic south of San Quentin. Only saw cars coming from opposite
direction about once every five miles. Came across one bull in the road and 5 minutes later 2 Burros in the road just before dusk. Saw Green Angels.
Stopped at a few more Military Check Points.
Stayed at Desert Inn Guerrero Negro. Saw Internet rate of $70 plus IVA for Standard Room, with full breakfast, Welcome c-cktail and 20% discount on
Food & Beverages. We didn’t book his as we weren’t sure how far we would drive our first day. Original quote upon arrival was $80, but showed
them my Travel Agent card and we got a discounted rate of. There was free wifi in the lobby, no hair dryers in the rooms. The towels were rough and
nonabsorbent, as was the toilet paper. Beds were really hard. We felt that this hotel was overpriced. There was a 1 hour later time change. It was
cold and cloudy. We were not prepared as only had shorts and long sleeved shirts. It was the end of June, who knew it would be cold on the Baja?
Note - Driving Speed on straight stretches was whatever the speed limit sign said, but in miles per hour instead of kilometers per hour. Please do not
lecture, I was not the driver. Driving times and distances are based on our GPS and do not include times when we were stopped for gas, food or

Never pass EL ROSARIO without topping off at the Baja Cactus Pemex, owned by a Baja Nomad, Antonio... 'BajaCactus'.
The Pacific Coast of Baja Norte is cold and foggy in the early summer... We call it 'June Gloom'.
There are many nice places in Guerrero Negro that Nomads would have suggested other than the former La Pinta, now Desert Inn...
