An Unusual Relationship?

Bajahowodd - 7-10-2009 at 11:40 AM

We were driving up just North of Santo Tomas Wednesday when, on a long straightaway, I noticed a Federal Police car closing on us very rapidly. Of course, my first thought was that I might be getting pulled over for speeding. However, the cop car just whizzed on past us. Shortly thereafter, we came upon the military checkpoint just South of Maneadero. It's a busy one, using three separate lanes for inspection. Much to my surprise, there was the Federal Police car sitting in line. I would have assumed that they would just go around military checkpoints. But not so. The cops were not subjected to any inspection and just proceeded when it was their turn. I don't know if anyone on the board knows more about the relationship between the Army and the Federal Police, but I must admit my surprise at seeing the cops sitting in line waiting their turn.

They probably do deserve a little special treatment. :) After all, they're trying to enforce the law. Lot's of miles between those checkpoints.:D

The new federal police is made up of mostly ex soldiers. They have a close relationship but in the past, there has been many instances where federales have crossed checkpoints with their trunks full of drugs. So everybody gets searched, including other military personel.
