Is the Colorado DL one of those "Enhanced" DLs?

I thought that only the states of Michigan, New York, Vermont and Washington are issuing them at this time.

copied from an UNOFFICIAL Colorado passport card/EDL info site-

Enhanced Driver License (EDL)
Why an enhanced driver license?

Much of the spirit behind the PASS Card also applies to the Enhanced Driver License (EDL). Convenience, portability, and cost are the big selling points here. If you are a licensed driver, check to see if your state has developed an EDL program in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security. Currently, only Washington State, Vermont, New York, and Michigan are fully up and running with EDLs. However, Arizona, Texas, and California are making progress with their programs, too.

Like PASS Cards, EDLs are only accepted at land and sea border crossings, not for air travel. The license contains radio-frequency microchipping that uniquely identifies you in CBP databases, which should promote a more expeditious cross. EDLs will be approved forms of identification, in full compliance with the new WHTI security measures.
*************

Then there's also the Sentri/Nexux fastlane passes- those are different. Also note the EDL'a are only land/sea entry, passport or passport cards required for air travel.

Passports are processing in 10days-2 weeks now. If time permits, maybe you can get a passport renewal.

Is it like a combination of a driver's license and a passport card? I'd like to have that, so I don't have to carry two cards in my wallet.

Washington State has the enhanced DL

As I understand, it can't be used crossing from Mexico. Only Canada.

Mexico along with California border communities have asked the State of California to consider the program but California's broke and ain't in the mood.

Penny-wise, pound-foolish.

Before rushing out to get one of the new, "enhanced" driver's license, you may want to read this: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090711/ap_on_bi_ge/us_chipping_...

I believe it can be used in any case that a Passport Card could be used. Land - sea travel to Canada, Mexico and Caribbean. And like the Passport Card, it can never be used for air travel to these destinations.
