Hello,
I am taking my family in our first trip to Baja, we are going to Bajia de los Anjeles, however I'm very worry for some comments I've heard about Pemex
fuel, how they give less for your money, the quality of the gasoline, and the lack of it in some places.
Please advice on the best places to fill up my tank without worrys and the must places to do it. I drive a minivan.
Any other comments are welcome.

That's right, DON'T WORRY! Only two Pemex stations have had repeated complaints (San Quintin and Santa Rosalia). Top off at El Rosario the owner is a
Baja Nomad, 'BajaCactus'.
76 miles beyond is Catavina with one Pemex pump OR an independant across the street selling. 65 miles further is the turnoff to Bahia de los Angeles
and up to two independants are selling gas there. It is 41 miles into Bahia from Hwy. 1 (182 mi. from El Rosario) and there are two independants
selling gas there. Pemex is jsut over $2/ gal. and independants are about $3/gal. Using pesos will lower the price to you.

my rule of thumb is to top off the tank anytime an opportunity arises. be sure and visit Campo Archelon and the sea turtle research station (http://www.ontheroadin.com/baja/bajarvparks/camparchelon.htm)--pretty cool!

Two places that you DON'T have to be worried about being ripped off for gas at all. As mentioned, Santa Rosalia has been know for years as a place
to avoid if at all possible, several people have been talking about La Paz being a problem lately 
Good rule of thumb: Get out of your van and stand next to the pump, make sure they zero out the pump before you allow them to start pumping.
Where are you and your family coming from? And, when are you going to BOLA?
OOPS, I forgot to mention.....using Pesos is always better (you won't get messed up with the exchange for one thing) another tip I've learned is to
carry small bills (50 peso notes work best for me) you can use up some serious vacation time waiting for change from even a $20 (USD) bill (I hate
wasting my vacation time 
)
