My girlfriend and I are on a roadtrip heading south through Baja to the southern coast via La Paz. We've been renting snorkeling gear and there's
something up with my camera, so we figured we'd stop in La Paz and buy replacements for both. Can anybody reccommend a good shop for each? I've found
nothing on the internet and would hate to play the lotto by checking out random places from the phone book.
I would like to find a bigger camera store with a good selection of digital point-n-shoots. As for the snorkel gear, we'd like to find stuff that's
better than Wal-mart but nothing too pricey - we won't use it too much after this trip.
Buisness name and street address would be great - our GPS should be able to handle it from there. Thanks in advance!comitan - 7-13-2009 at 10:34 AM
For snorkeling gear, out the 16th September maybe 8-10 blocks from the Malecon on the left just before Altamirano, very good selection. Cameras can't
help you with a store, if you want a cheap digi I have a Fuji A303 3.2 Pix, for $35.00. contact me if interested.gnukid - 7-13-2009 at 11:17 AM
There is an office depot at Fojadores and Colosio, kiddy-corner to Soriana, there you should find up-date camera and electronics as reasonable prices,
there are also cameras inside Soriana in a small shop and probably next-door at Dorian's and City Club all within that same shopping center.
Whatever you buy it will be more expensive than the US by some 30% typically.
For snorkel gear sounds like Comitan gave you instructions to Ferre y Mar tienda fishing and diving main store-there are 3 or more in town-good
selection.
Sounds like fun,comitan - 7-13-2009 at 11:23 AM
Ferre y Mar tienda Has US Diver snorkeling kit, fins, mask and snorkle for between 5-600 pesos.afterglowefx - 7-15-2009 at 03:48 PM
Thanks for the help. I have seen US Diver stuff elsewhere and their basic selection is a little cheap. We've used the basic (they call it
'recreational') in the past without much success. We were hoping for something more mid-range: do they have the more expensive kits?
As to the digital I figured it would be a little more. Do you think the new Walmart might also be an option?comitan - 7-15-2009 at 04:14 PM
Ferre y Mar tienda Yes they have much dive gear.gnukid - 7-15-2009 at 05:30 PM

No, not walmart. The others mentioned are great. Please report back to let people know what you find?afterglowefx - 7-15-2009 at 06:04 PM
Sure, will do. We're headed into the city tomorrow or so.comitan - 7-15-2009 at 06:11 PM
Walmart you will pass on the way in.afterglowefx - 7-17-2009 at 08:49 AM
Ferre y Mar on 16 de Septembre had a pretty good selection of snorkeling stuff ranging from cheap to decent. Seemed a little pricey to me, but I'm no
expert.We walked away happy.
As for cameras, both Walmart and the Office Depot had similar selections. I'd say Office Depot's was slightly better with slightly better prices. They
had a lot of Olympus/Sony/Kodiak/Etc cameras whereas Walmart seemed to be carrying more junk brands that nobody's ever heard of.
Thanks for the great advice, directions were spot-on. We're a little bewildered after 2 weeks in central Baja - there's SO MUCH STUFF HERE afterglowefx - 7-22-2009 at 08:36 AM
A further update on this thread: the Dorian's off the Malecon (there's an entrance on 16 de Septembre about 2-3 blocks up I believe) had a much better
camera selection than any of the other places I've seen in the city (including Canon, a brand which other places don't have) but the prices are a
little higher. May be a better option for some, I probably would have went there instead.tripledigitken - 7-22-2009 at 08:44 AM
Have you bought the camera? When you do let us know which one you bought and if you are happy with it.
