Research as to reasons the govt. sometimes takes the land back, ie taxes, etc... tjey are part of Mexicos history so it's interesting to me anyway...

The Ejidos were set up to give groups of citizens the USE of government owned land to support themselves. The government retained ownership of the land and there are no taxes. A few years ago, the law was changed to allow the ejidos and their members to privatize the land and gain title. Once that is done, it is treated as all other private owned property, subject to taxes etc. and can be sold to others.

there is a very interesting guy by the name of Guillermo, who lives in San Lucas which is the ejido just south of Santa Rosalia, who wrote a very scholarly book on the subject of ejido development in Mexico.
