We are flying into San Diego early Saturday afternoon. My buddy will be driving down from Oceanside to pick us up and off to Baja we go. He will be
pulling his boat and an atv and does not pick us up at the airport. So, he would like to park somewhere that has a lot of space with easy access and
we will take a cab to him. Where could we do this close enough to the airport that will not cost us a gazillion dollar cab fare?? Thanks...

Harbor Island. Right across Harbor Drive from the airport. Easy in and out, lots of big parking lots, very easy from there to 5 South.tripledigitken - 7-16-2009 at 03:45 PM
One suggestion within 15 min of the airport.
I 5 south take the Sea World Exit (last exit before I 8) turn right then the first right to Fiesta Island enter and park anywhere on loop road.
I believe this is daylight hours only, but not positive.

On one hand I agree with Curt. On the other hand, just knowing the on-time record of the airlines, and the lack of parking for towed rigs, unless your

Here in New Mexico they have "Cell Phone area" - large parking lots near the terminal where one can park and wait for a call that your passenger is
exiting the terminal. You can then drive by and pick them up without causing traffic jams.

your trailer may be tight fit in cell phone lot, as it is usually close to full. go to harbor island like original suggestion. it is a 2 minute taxi
ride from airport. by the way, taxi driver will hate you -- they wait in line long time to get a fare at airport, and if you only go 1 mile, then

Harbor Island works well.
As he enters the island turn right at the "T" and go to the end where there is a U turn circle at Tom Ham's Lighthouse. Then park anywhere along the
curb on the right after making that U turn.
The cell phone lot just south of the airport is stall parking only (my Wife flies regularly and I pick her up)

If it were me I would wait at Harbor Island then get your call after you get your luggage and I head for terminal and have you walk out the terminal
with your bags and turn right and walk to the farthest part of the curb area (go under the overhead walkways) away form the main departure/arrival
areas. Then I would slowly make my way in the far left lanes past all the folks and merge over to the curb area (past the overhead walkways) and have
you throw your stuff in the rig and bee line it for the border. Muy facil! Save the money for some ice cold Tecate and don't give the cabbie a reason

Or, you could use the Sheraton's courtesy shuttle service that runs from 5a-12a, with no more than about a 10 minute wait at the
courtesy vehicle stop outside the terminal.... and avoid the headache for the cab driver.

Sheraton Shuttle is the best option. The cab drivers get down right rude with the short trip.

Harbor Island Parking Lots - Caution !!

Unless I'm mistaken those parking lots on Harbor Island are all regulated. You have to pay to park in those lots...even the dirt lots. And they may
not even let your buddy park his truck in the lot with a trailer in tow! All those lots are fenced and most are used for employee and long term
parking. Plus the entrance to those lots tend to be narrow next to a ticket kiosk...meaning they are mostly for cars not truck and trailer rigs.
Tripledigitken's idea is good only I would have your buddy exit I5 south at Clairemont Dr. Turn right and you run right into public parking just
south of the boat launch but north of the Hilton. Lots of parking lots to stretch out in.
Another option is to have your buddy drive on Harbor Drive south down to the Convention Center. Just past the Convention Center take the 1st right
(8th street) and follow it around the Conv. Center until you come to a park called Marina Park with a fishing pier. There's plenty of room in the
parking lot. You can meet him there and then go out to Harbor Dr., head south and turn left on Caeser Chavez Pkwy. Follow signs to I5 south and your

Hate to even add my 2 cents, but, elgatoloco, tehag, et al. have it right. Have your buddy stationed at Harbor Island, and on cell phone contact. One
thing: If he is worried about the Lindbergh Field pickup/drop off, once you land, walk East to the end of the terminal to allow your friend to avoid
the cars/shuttles (as he is towing).
