Water Temp at Scorpion Bay

bajachris - 7-19-2009 at 05:45 PM

Hola, I wondered what the water temperature is at Scorpion Bay? I really don't want to have to bring a full suit if I don't have to. Thanks!

Warm in summer, I took a spring suit and didn't need it, bring a vest for early mornings. I surfed very early every morning and had waves to my self for about 1 hr. All the young surfers get drunk at night and can't get up early.

Take the wetsuit and booties. Things can change you never know.

Hey thanks fellow Baja Nomads! I'm anxious to surf without a wet suit. We'll leave the full suits at home. We'll bring spring suits just in case. But, we'll bring the booties for 3rd/4th point. Good web sites for water temperature (thanks Taco de Baja). This is only our second time going in August so I wasn't sure about the water temp always being hot. In April/May the water is 4 mil only.

I would bring my fullsuit wetsuit for a couple of reasons.

Unless you have a great tan, the sun will bake you. I have seen many people wear their fullsuit because they are sunburned, extra crispy, please. I wear a hat surfing because the sun is like an anvil, pounding hard. It takes me a couple of weeks to get use to the sun.

And then when you drive back North, one could stop by quatro casa. And one could always wear a wetsuit at quatro.

But all you really need is a vest, or jacket. In the mornings one may need something. But it is the afternoon wind that one would like some protection. And that wind can blow.

Safe travels

I donno, a wetsuit doesn't take all that much space. I'll always bring my suits, no matter where I'm going. Northern Baja gets good this time of year and I'd be bummed to be driving home, seeing open peaks, and really wanting a full suit. If you didn't know, Northern Baja gets the humbolt current which is much colder than the california current that SoCal gets.

Thanks for the advice on the full suits. That's what Lycra is for. We're always in such a hurry to get home, we never stop to surf. We don't like to stop off the toll road. Last time we did, got hit up for a ticket. (Long funny story). The cop said our tail light wasn't working. My husband got out and showed him it was, just dim. Then I told the other cop, in Spanish, that I have never seen a Mexican car with lights working properly. Big laugh, let us go... No ticket.
