¨Newmads¨in La Paz

LisaR. - 7-19-2009 at 10:54 PM

It´s Sunday night, and we pulled into La Paz this evening, on day 9 of our adventure. Any Nomads in the area interested in meeting us for a drink at some point in the next 3 days¿ We plan to be here through Wednesday night. Post or send Mark or me a U2U. We´ll check back during the day tomorrow...

DENNIS - 7-19-2009 at 11:02 PM

Go find Jesse's restaurant, Las Virgenes, and tell him I sent you. Dinner and drinks are on the house and on me. Eat till your belly blows up and be sure to fill your Thermos with Jalisco's finest for the trip back to the hotel.
Say "HI THERE" to Jesse for me.

LisaR. - 7-19-2009 at 11:10 PM

That´s so nice, Dennis! Thank you! We will certainly do our best to find it...we don´t have the lay of the land, yet!

Your welcome, Lisa. Check the yellow pages or, take an expensive cab....maybe a limo. Jesse will comp that as well. He's rich as well as a really nice guy. A big fan of mine. SALUD

BajaNuts - 7-19-2009 at 11:26 PM

Welcome LisaR! hope you are enjoying Baja....

I believe that Jesse's restaurant is TRES Virgines..... not LAS Virgines.....

A good cab driver would probably get you to the right place...hope you get this in time...

Enjoy your adventure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

edit for spelling

OH NO....Not again.......... Oh well, that'll give me time to gather some new material. Maybe I'll go down south with a laptop and hang out in Jesse's Joint and pretend I'm posting on Nomad. Image is everything.

Bajahowodd - 7-20-2009 at 12:10 PM

If you're driving, Jesse's is easy to find. On the malecon, headed toward Pichelingue, when you're in front of La Perla hotel and restaurant, go four blocks ahead, and turn right away from the malecon. Up two blocks, look for the cow on the roof of Aramburo's Market. Jesse's is right next to it.

Trust me. You really cannot stay in La Paz and not have dinner with Jesse. Great food, great service, great ambience. Great guy.

LisaR. - 7-20-2009 at 06:42 PM

We´re heading to Jesse´s in a few minutes. And don´t worry, Jesse (and Dennis!), we are happy to buy our own dinner, but we might let Dennis pick up the drinks!

Suck'm up, Lisa. Sign my name with a 200% tip. Jesse knows I'm good for it. Buy everybody in town all they can swallow. Doggy bags are fine. SALUD

So... How come no one mentioned that Tres Virgenes is cerrado los lunes?

:O

We took a cab over, and it was closed! Anyway, we´ll try again tomorrow, and tonight we had a lovely dinner at Buffalo BBQ down the street...

Use the back door...the special Nomad entrance. Sometimes it sticks so give it a nudge with the bumper of your car. Everybody does that....Nomads, anyway.
By the way....It's the honor system at Jesse's Joint so just leave a little note and take what you want when you leave, you know, sandwiches and lots of cold beer.....maybe a table and a couple of chairs for the beach.
Don't worry about the door. The neighbors living in the culvert down the street will take care of it. They always do.

Bajahowodd - 7-21-2009 at 11:26 AM

Kinda wondering if Dennis has ever been to Jesse's restuarant. It's a long drive for dinner.

I have an allergy to garden snails.
Jesse, my man....Why don't you change that back door lock to a combo type and post the numbers here? Remember...it's the honor system. We trust you and you trust us. Put everything on my account. Here ya go:

Either way. I live for change. [not small change as someone was about to mention]

Bajahowodd - 7-21-2009 at 03:27 PM

So, she gets a nomad sticker because she's a girl?:?:

Sounds like a pretty good reason to me...not to mention Shari gives them high marks.
Anyway, they'll have to be careful when Jesse is gifting them with a Nomad sticker, he doesn't send the busboy outside to plaster their vehicle with "Jesse's Joint" advertising. He does that a lot.
Have you looked closely at your bumper since you got back?

LisaR. - 7-22-2009 at 10:10 AM

Well, we had a wonderful dinner last night at Tres Virgenes.

DENNIS... We ordered the best of everything and Jesse said that PayPal is fine...

Seriously, though... We really did have a fabulous meal, and anyone coming to La Paz should definitely try it. Mark particularly loved the grilled baby octupus appetizer, and my chicken was incredible--it had a lightly smoked flavor with a rich cream sauce...Yum!!!

And JESSE, it was great to meet you, and thanks for the bumper sticker. We´ll slap it on the car today!

Oh....I didn't realize that was on the menu. The local indian tribes wrote about the "delicacy" on the cave walls. They called it "AguaBambi."
Glad you enjoyed your dinner, Lisa.

The appetizer menu is da bomb!

Debra - 7-22-2009 at 11:10 PM

Moved to La Paz 4 years ago Deb.

Debra - 7-23-2009 at 12:30 AM

How did I miss that? Geeze, I think I need to spend more time on Nomads.

Debra - 7-25-2009 at 06:41 PM

Jesse, Much better chance to come taste what I'm told is great food now that you are in La Paz, I get lost in TJ!

BajaBruno - 7-25-2009 at 07:04 PM

After Lisa's comments, Alix & I ran right over to Tres Virgenes to try the grilled baby octopus. Kind of a Greek twist to it. Wonderful stuff. I thoroughly enjoyed my lamb shank, also. Alix had a chicken breast with a very tasty sauce.

I still want to know what those birds were that run around the place. Big bird, with a crest and forked tail. Jesse says they are related to magpies and native to the mainland. Alix tried to get a photo but wasn't quite quick enough.
