U.S. image gets boost: Mexican citizens' image of the United States has rebounded to positive levels not seen since before the U.S. invasion of Iraq, a Pew Global Attitudes Project survey found. The favorable image of the United States has soared in Mexico to 69 percent from 47 percent since Barack Obama succeeded George W. Bush as president. A year ago, 16 percent of Mexicans said they trusted the United States to do what's right in international affairs. This year, 55 percent of Mexicans had faith in U.S. foreign policy.

I guess that means 45% don't. Not exactly overwhelming acceptance.

bajamigo - 7-26-2009 at 09:38 AM

I'm afraid our days of overwhelming anybody are pretty well behind us.

Probably, but 55 is a lot better than 16!

I guess we're left to overwhelming ourselves. I'm getting my fair share from Obama every day. When he takes a break, Arnold steps in.

vandenberg - 7-26-2009 at 11:32 AM

Makes you wonder what people they polled.
Lot different from the hinterlands of Chiapas to the educated folks in D.F.:biggrin:

Maybe Los Angeles.

Cypress - 7-26-2009 at 12:16 PM

Yea, must be comforting to know that the US has a new admistration. Did they poll the Mexicans that have returned to Mexico due to lack of jobs in the US? These polls are worthless, politically driven propaganda(Material diseminated by the advocates of a doctrine:Marxist propaganda).:D

I'm still not getting work! But at least it gives me more time in Baja! Gotta look at the good side of all things. :bounce:

Skeet/Loreto - 7-26-2009 at 05:53 PM

The United States of America is still the most Free, Richest, Greatest Country in the World even if a bunch of Marxist, Social nuts keep putting out Spam that say s differently.

Dont" beleive a word of that BS. We are still the Best!!

Skeet/loreto

duke62 - 7-27-2009 at 12:10 AM

Yes, Skeet/Loreto, we are the best.

Because we have accepted persecuted Christians, Muslims, those of the Jewish faith when the N-zis wanted to erase any memory of them. Gays, Chaldeans (Christian Iraqis, too long to go into that, but they make up almost 40% of my son's high school. Thanks, W. Because of you, they will never be able to go back to Iraq). Mexican, Guatamalen, Honduren (sp?), people, striving for a better life.

That is why we are a shining light, a beacon on the hill. Because The United States of America doesn't care abought skin colour, or religion. Only: Do you want to be part of this amazing experiment, called democracy? This dream? Most answer, "I do."

I do as well.

Martyman - 7-27-2009 at 11:25 AM

It is not just Mexico. The majority of peoples around the globe have a better impression of the US. When I was in Europe last summer, europeans didn't think americans were smart enough to elect Obama.

Bajahowodd - 7-27-2009 at 12:00 PM

Right, Marty. We had an Obama bumper sticker on our car during our last trip South and received several positive comments and "thumbs-up" from folks. Polls do show Obama to be very popular around the world. Ironically, his favorable rating is higher outside the United States. But then, most foreign countries don't have Fox News complaining about him 24/7. I was in several European countires last summer and engaged in pre-election discussions with locals. Bottom line was that they felt the last guy made them feel like he didn't give a damn about other countries.

"Marxist Propaganda? Marxist Socialnuts?"

toneart - 7-27-2009 at 12:45 PM

The only time this is ever a factor here in our BajaNomad forum is when a right-wingnut says something like this: "a bunch of Marxist, Social nuts keep putting out Spam that say s differently."--Skeet

This oft-expressed notion here, by just a very few, is a total fabrication. I will not let you get away with it! I resent the implication. You are not even referencing anything specific. You just throw those statements out, unsolicited, and it is RUDE!

The rest of us, who try to post intelligently and constructively, may sometimes criticize our government and our people because we want to make our country even better. We are not perfect. But, because our First Amendment allows us the freedom to criticize with impunity, we do, just like you do.

Our parents criticized us, knowing that we could do better. And most of us turned out the better for it.

The only time I remind any of you of this is always when countering one of your absurd statements. Some of you claim the opposite.....Uh Uhhhhhhhh! Not true!

Now, all of our ideas can be expressed within a context such as this statement by Cypress: "Yea, must be comforting to know that the US has a new admistration. Did they poll the Mexicans that have returned to Mexico due to lack of jobs in the US? These polls are worthless, politically driven propaganda(Material diseminated by the advocates of a doctrine:Marxist propaganda)." Right or wrong, his question and opinion is valid. But then he has to ruin it with the content within the parenthesis. "politically driven propaganda"? Perhaps. "..a doctrine: Marxist propaganda"? Unnecessary label that is neither true nor credible.

Read Duke62's affirmation of Skeet's premise "we" (the United States) "are the best." That is the way to express an opinion and he gives lots of examples of our democratic principles.

vgabndo - 7-27-2009 at 01:50 PM

Right on Tony! While I will acknowledge that there have been some anti-FOX types who have failed to hold their rhetoric to acceptable standards here, in my judgment the kind of baseless divisive FOX-ranting feeding the far right wing is reflected in the illiterate anti-social attacks by the folks you've cited. The world is a better, safer place without PNAC in control of the Executive Branch. The world is smart enough to see this. "My country right or wrong" is no longer a rational philosophy. May we all work together for rational solutions to issues more germaine to survival than "My god can kick your god's butt."

I pay $510.00 a month for excellent health insurance, and I STILL can't pay all my doctor's bills! It is time to get real.

toneart, So? Read what? Careful, you're tripping over your own silliness.

toneart - 7-27-2009 at 02:37 PM

Vgabndo,

You are the first, besides me, to ever mention the PNAC. All one has to do is Google it and it is all there; the Cheney plan, the pre-meditation for the illegal invasion of Iraq, and the whole cast of characters who were behind the Neocon's intent, and their implementation of the plan during the eight years of Bush.

Yes, we really need a good healthcare plan in place soon. "My country Right Or Wrong"? It is my country when it is right AND also when it is wrong. I am more proud during some times than during others. When I think we have embarked down a wrong path, I will say so, like a Good American!

Back to the title of this string, "They Like Us, They Really Like Us", I am so glad. Whew! It's been a long time.

For the first time in quite awhile, I attended and enjoyed our small town 4th of July parade. I even carried a small American Flag on a stick, and waved it.

Mr Sensitive.

Not to worry. I joined the Ejido. and have taken up arms. And because of that I always sleep well. No phones in that god foresaken place.

How in the *** does one "join" an Ejido? It would be like a Jew joining the Knights Of Colombus.

Thanks for the "sensitive" comment. Most people that really hate me use the word thinking Ill be more than normally perplexed but, I'm not. I know it means you think, and rightly so, that I'm Black. My father used to rescue wounded elephants in Nairobi until one of them stompped him to mush and ate him.
Oh well...that's hardly Baja so, Buenas Noches.

if your dad really died in the way you said, that's very sad. :(
When i was a kid my mom was friends with an elephant trainer in the circus. Uncle Chubby tripped and fell right under an elephant during a performance. The elephant's foot was poised right over his leg. He kinda panicked and ordered the elephant to halt so she obeyed, completely pulverizing his leg. :(
