Russ - 7-27-2009 at 11:01 AM

Hot here so it must really be hot else where around the SOC. Yeh, I know, it's 75º, nice breeze and perfect wave on the Pacific. Ouch!

102 and 20% over here on the Sonoran coast at 11:15. Amazing how the drop in humidity makes this heat bearable outside.

Do you run a swamp cooler, Russ?

[Edited on 7-27-2009 by Hook]

Russ - 7-27-2009 at 11:48 AM

We only have a handful of days this dry so no swamp cooler. What a difference an hour makes: Now it's hot!

This is issued as a precaution to people in Seattle who have possibly never seen the sun, right?? :P

Russ, I guess I was wondering what is creating a differential of 10-15% in humidity from within and outside.

Is that from the condensation off your open Pacificos in the house?

Or, are you and the dogs panting heavily???????

It's rather cool here today...i had a long sleeve t-shirt all day..clear as a bell, this morning there was alot of dew dripping off the roof...blowing about 18 knots from the west.

Crusoe - 7-27-2009 at 03:25 PM

Hook.... Many Seattle residents live in their favorite Starbucks hangout, rubbing shoulders and admiring those of the opposite sex. Then beating it back to their airconditioned 10th floor condos and prepping up their $40 a pound Copper River Salmon. ++C++:smug::smug:

Over on the Pacific side, west of San Quintin it is a very hot 77 degrees. I actually had to take off my sweatshirt...

Oso - 7-27-2009 at 04:22 PM

A nice pleasant 76...here in my air conditioned living room looking out the window at the patio thermometer showing 116(in the shade), 2 degrees hotter than the radio says it is in Yuma. I think I'll take a walk,,, over to the fridge for more ice.

Oh yeah, heat advisory til tomorrow night.

stanburn - 7-27-2009 at 04:30 PM

Manzanillo is 88 on the north side of the house and 90 on the south side with 60% humidity and overcast.

Osprey - 7-27-2009 at 04:42 PM

102º on the patio right now. That's 254 in dog degrees. Luckily, we just installed a Trane. It's hard to stop a Trane. Having said that the CFE bucket trucks are in the village and the current is probably bopping around a lot just about dinner time. All we can hope for is the populace wants salads for dinner, not carnitas.

BajaNuts - 7-27-2009 at 05:37 PM

eastern washington-
reader board at the grocery store in town said 114F about an hour ago.

but I gotta admit.....their temp probe is on the roof of the store!

When we used to have the bank reader board, the grocery store was usually 4 degrees hotter than the bank. I'm going with 110F, more thunderstorms predicted.

Last week on Thursday, a storm system came through here and there were 16 lightening strikes that resulted in fires. I can't remember the total lightening count, I'll try to look it up. It made news on the TODAY show.

Hubby just said there were 2700 lightening strikes in 1 hour in our region of eastern WA.

right now,
90F outside, 32 humidity
77F inside

Mulege now...

(Opps...guess I messed up posting this in the wrong thread)

Oh Joy!...my first post and it is something useful.

Right now in Mulege it is sunny, about 99-100 degrees, but feels hotter.

A bit humid at 34%

very little wind here today.

nancywinpdx - 7-27-2009 at 09:22 PM

In Portland it was slightly over 100º and it's very humid. It's still hot outside even tho it's night time. I wish I had a/c I am sweating to death. Feels like a sauna in my apt. It's too hot to eat; all I've had today was a coupla cookies in the morning. It's gonna be even hotter for a few days. I wish I could go to the beach.

Hook - 7-27-2009 at 09:29 PM

Dry spell ending here in San Carlos. Humidity has come up 20% in the last hour and the temp has dropped 10 degees down to 91.

Strong SE winds predicted for tomorrow. Lightning visible on the horizon to the south.

greta-inbaja - 7-27-2009 at 09:42 PM

truckee ,ca. 84 today, 17% humidity. right now... 9:40 pm 64, supposed to get to 53 tonight.. I wish our house cooled off as fast as outside! 84 doesn't sound hot compared to you guys down south. but is is too hot to hike, the swimming is nice though. Hasta

Russ - 7-28-2009 at 05:40 AM

Tues AM 85º ~ 92% hum and NE wind to 17mph at 6:40 AM

Cypress - 7-28-2009 at 06:02 AM

Tues. 6:00, 57 degrees clear

nancywinpdx - 7-28-2009 at 08:53 AM

It was so hot and humid, I did not sleep a wink. It's so stuffy and sticky in here, I'm 'dying'!!! Today will be approx 104º. Ick!

Russ - 7-28-2009 at 09:07 AM

I found if I sleep on a beach towel it helps with the sticky and a fan on high might allow some sleep. Last night I tried the little AC and closed up the bedroom and it got down to 84º but brought the humidity way down around 45%. Can't do that every night though cuz I've to run the generator.

local weather

stimbo - 7-28-2009 at 09:16 AM

We're into a rainy, thunderstorm cycle. Upper 80's, beautiful evening skies!

Russ,
I found out that if you keep that room, where the humidity dropped significantly because of the AC, closed off as tight as you can , it will help against the heat and will be much more comfortable. Now if I could only convince my wife of this.....:no::biggrin:

Nancy--In a desert survival course I took many years ago a trick we learned with dealing with extreeme heat at night so a person cpould sleep was to gather up some 1 gal. milk jugs and fill with water and freeze them. Place by your feet and legs at night and it will help a little bit... Honest... Hang in there! ++C++

Russ - 7-28-2009 at 10:22 AM

Holy/Moly Crusoe. If-n you had a freezer......water" extreeme heat"...... ........ Survival course? That certainly would take a "desert survival course" to survive those conditions! Just kidin that probably would help some

Crusoe:

I gotta try that! I've only got one jug right now but one's better than none! (that sounded tragically obscene)

Thanks for the pointer. In Oaxaca, sometimes we'd sleep in our panties with a wet towel covering us.

Now that's quite a trick, surviving in the desert while you have a freezer with you.:?:
Maybe should unplug the freezer and plug in the A/C.:?:
See how smart I am. Can't believe you didn't think of that.

bajabeachbabe - 7-28-2009 at 11:12 AM

In Seattle today we are expecting a high of 97 and tomorrow over 100. Heat wave is expected to last through the week. Hard to believe that it will be hotter here tomorrow than Loreto. All we now need is for the power grid to go down. Yesterday there were some brownouts in areas. I think I need to escape to Loreto to cool down!!!

Crusoe - 7-28-2009 at 11:20 AM

Vandy---It sounds as if you are surviving in a desert atmosphere! I'll bet you have a freezer? And an air condtioner? It all comes down to many survival modes. Stay cool.++C++

Duh... you're smarter than I am to bring the a/c! Well maybe we need to bring solar panels too on out camping trip cuz we'll need to keep the cervezas cold too.

castaway$ - 7-28-2009 at 01:48 PM

It's blistering in southern Oregon! It's supposed to hit 108 today and yesterday my thermometer said 112 in the shade!

Port Alberni B.C. 102F 45% relative humidity.. where I am
Tofino B.C. 70F 78% relative humidity Tofino is 85KM from here on the coast..
What a difference !!! eh!!

Broke the record yesterday in Port.. I think it's cooler in Baja ..
A few days ago we had a brush fire 1/2 mile from our house..7 fire trucks responded.. Thought we would be evacuated ..
You never saw two old people pack up a 5th wheel so fast in your life!!! Thank-goodness we unpacked 6 hrs later.

I think it's cool how Pt.Alberni have those temp differences...reminds me of home all right...in Vizcaino, it's gotta be over 100 and it's like 80 here in Asuncion....I'm jonsein for some salmon though!
