Age for requiring a fishing license?

fishbuck - 7-29-2009 at 09:51 PM

My son is 15 and we will be fishing this weekend in SanQ. Anybody know the minimum age requirement?

Alan - 7-29-2009 at 09:59 PM

As I understand it age is not an exception. He needs one.

Correct.

MEXICAN SPORTFISHING REGULATIONS
When operating a boat that carries fishing equipment in Mexican waters, it is necessary to hold a valid fishing license for everybody aboard the boat, regardless of age and whether fishing or not. A Fishing License is not required when fishing from land.

Ya, that's what I thought.
Is their a one day license in Mexico?
I could only see a 1 week license on their page.

I think I'll stop in Ensenada and buy him an annual license.
If it works out right we'll get more trips this summer.
I'm excited because they are catching big white seabass!
50lbs.
Also, outside the kelp patties are full of yellowtail and dorado.
Yellowfin should be there soon.
And I'm fishing a 28 Amato so I get to check it out.
He says he has a center console model. This could be the perfect boat!

Hello Fishbuck

It's my understanding, in CSL, that age is not a conditional requirement for license .. we put a license aboard for every passenger.

I often say that when the wind changes direction, the answer to the question may change as well ... tho we are all watching pennies and pesos, respectfully suggest better safe than sorry when it comes to this issue and have the license ... If stopped and checked, the 'enforcer' has the 'power' if he/she so decides, to confiscate tackle, gear, the boat, boat license, any fish caught <egads!!> .. then, the offending party has to go thru hoops, literal and financial, to get it all straightened out ..

The annual license is the economical way to go .. Again, I respectfully add this reminder: Different areas 'may' require a specific 'stamp' for their area, for example Loreto, La Paz, CSL etc., may require a local stamp for use in their area ... best to make the trek to the local PESCA office to check that a license will be acceptable. ..

All best fishes naturally ...

Lori,
Is it still correct that no license is needed is only shore fishing? Also, what about fishing from something like a float tube or Kayak?

Thanks

I had to purchase a license for my Mexican son 2 weeks ago. Hes 14 and there was no difference in cost between myself (American) and him. I think they were around 550 pesos each. These were good for a year.

Fishbuck, once you have ridden many, you will realize that finding a perfect boat is like finding a perfect woman.

But keep ridin', amigo, on both accounts.

Hi Diane ~
As posted above by Diver, there are written laws/rules concerning this .. and it says a license is not required when fishing from land ... Perhaps others will disagree, but this is my opinion ... I suggest anyone considering the activity check-in with the officials in the locale/area considered! Fishing is fishing ... from shore, kayak, tube or boat .. Get the license ... the funds provide much needed support when purchased locally vs from a tackle store in SoCal .. for the small amount of money to purchase, better to be documented correctly, than find oneself in a position where hoop dancing is involved! I hope this helps!

Short story: In the early 90's, prior to establishing Team CABO MAGIC Sportfishing, we were importers of misc. Went thru all we had to, inlcuding being certified by the FAA as a known shipper so we could ship via Alaska Air ... Per the aduana, we could not call Christmas Lights, "Lights" or they were restricted from import, however if we called them "Adornos de Navidad" they were allowed, and subject to 30% import fees .. but since this was the specific products asked for, it was what was done!

By the way I really like your signature!!!

Cypress - 7-30-2009 at 03:09 PM

CaboMagic, You're shipping fish north?:D Fishing must be good? What fish are you shipping?:tumble:

CaboMagic - 7-30-2009 at 04:42 PM

Cypress .. huh? sorry I dont understand your post.

Cypress - 7-30-2009 at 04:55 PM

"Ship via Alaskan Air..."? Was maybe mistaken. Thought you were shipping fish back to the states. Shipping what? North? South?:D

CaboMagic - 7-30-2009 at 05:17 PM

Hello Cypress - .. Let me clarify: We were exporters out of USA and importers into CSL ... shipped via Alaska Air .. I used to call Costco Corporate every 4 weeks and tell them about the thousands of dollars in merchandise purchased for export encouraging them to check into the area .. we used to (and in some cases still do) buy from them, LATronics, OCI, Abbey Distributing, Payless Cashways, PENN, Volvo, Port Supply, Boat US and many others .. for orders placed by businesses and individuals in Cabo .. seems like forever ago now!

<sorry about partial thread jack ..>

No problem. Glad to hear from you guys. Are you still doing share charters?

CaboMagic - 7-30-2009 at 06:25 PM

Fishbuck there are complications before, during and after .. so prefer not to.

People on vacation seem to make friends easily enough and can generally find one or a couple to share with .. works out best that way. It is very different from the longrange charters ...

It can be achieved successfully from this end of the transaction once in a blue moon .. We see blue water more often than a blue moon!

Gotta run .. again I hope this helps ..

fishbuck - 7-30-2009 at 06:33 PM

Bummer! Sorry it didn't work out but I think I know what you mean.
Still love to fish with you guys some time!

Anything that floats/Tube/ raft/kayak/serfboard/boat, if you are fishing from it you need a liscense. Everyone on board the boa/raft/tube/kayak also needs one.
You can buy a one day liscense in Ensenada at the Dept of Tourisum Across the street from the hotel Carona
Also just before you come into San Quintin there is a Dept of tourisum on the west side of the Hwy. If they are open you can get on there.
