Land ownership

Has anybody heard of a change in Mexican laws regarding USA citizens being able to own land if married to a Mexican citizen?

Right now as the law stands, you need to first get your citizenship via your marriage to her. It is a process and takes a couple of years. Shari has done it and I am getting close.

Your marriage will have to be registered in Mexico if you were married outside of the country...

Why not have the Mexican citizen own the property?

Yes, that is what I thought but I was told recently Mexico changed the law and allows a USA citizen to own property in Mexico if he/she is married to a Mexico. This change is recent. I've heard it from more than one source.

Think about what happens to your land title if you get divorced/widowed.
