OK= if you haven't had XM this would seem like pure BS.

But, since LaPaz is pretty close to Key West in Longitude (or Longitude-I can never keep them straight) can you receive satellite radio in LaPaz?

Yes you can.

I have picked up Sirius without problems South of Mexico City.

Our Sirius reception was great all the way down to La Paz. Around Todos Santos (which is as far south as we went), we started having a few problems with losing the signal, but even there it was pretty good most of the time.

I usually hit a short dead spot 40 kilometers north of La Paz, then its clear reception into town.

Driving to Honduras in a few months, anybody tested the Sirious system that far south??

I took my XM on a Baja cruise

and had good reception (so long as the antenna had a clear shot to the south) around the peninsula and to Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta

Sirius signal can vary

The Sirius signal varies in Baja because the satellites (three of them) pass over Key West, do a loop over the Hudson Bay, then cross over Baja above La Paz before heading south. Most of the time the signal will be coming from the northeast from southern Baja. Here is a link to one of the Sirius orbits:

http://www.heavens-above.com/orbitdisplay.asp?satid=26483

(The satid for the other two are 26626 and 26390)

XM is broadcast from geosynchronous orbits so it is always from the south in the northern hemisphere.

Great reception here in San Jose....
We have also used it up and down the peninsula.

XM satellite radio. Have had reception from San Blas to Los Cabos to the Yukon to Nova Scotia. Would regret missing great entertainment-comedy on XM'S Ch. 167.

Thanks to all of you. You have just made the drive from San Antonio, TX to La Paz a lot shorter.

Y'all are the best!!!;)

Just in case y'all are interested, XM has a great deal on a portable that you can use in the vehicle and also use on your stereo system...US$149. Records up to 10 hours of XM and also is an MP3, called XMP3.

Muchos Gracias
