GeoRock - 6-23-2004 at 09:27 AM

Just wondering what crowd will be at Camp Gecko; Gonzaga; and other places.

tim40 - 6-23-2004 at 02:01 PM

whodat54321 - 6-24-2004 at 08:19 PM

Plyas again.

Bullfights & fireworks on the beach can't be beat for me.

BajaCactus - 6-24-2004 at 08:30 PM

You lucky guys.. I hope I could join you but work keeps me very busy during those holidays.:(

Well.. I hope you get a great time... bring back some photos for us...:D

Mexitron - 6-24-2004 at 08:39 PM

This 4th of July I'm going to the fridge and pull out a beer, start the BBQ, and go sit in my Baja plant garden and make believe I'm down there..........

David K - 6-24-2004 at 10:02 PM

IF I don't go I will scream (and do as Mexitron does)... It's "L.A. Bay or Bust!" for me and my kids (who both actually want to go, without bribing)!

surfer jim - 6-25-2004 at 12:16 AM

Will stay home...don't like holiday crowds...and traffic....

David K - 6-25-2004 at 07:51 AM

Actually Jim, if you go to the gulf side it isn't too bad... Most think it is TOO hot in July!

What about your trek to Malarrimo? If I had a better business year I would join you. Perhaps next year, or the end of summer when the Pacific side is finally sunny?!

surfer jim - 6-25-2004 at 09:01 AM

Malarrimo is still on the table....was hoping someone else would start the trip as I am a better follower than leader....think next time would be after Labor day...mid September.....I am probably going to Abreojos some time around then for a week.....

I don't know Jim. You did an outstanding job leading us out of Matomi Canyon back in February, an excellent job. Didn't he David?
Bob H:D

GeoRock - 6-25-2004 at 03:10 PM

Thought we'd be heading for Bahia, but have settled for Mammoth as have family that wants to visit. Think I'll grab a good campsite before the crowds come, then we'll hang out between the campsite and our house. Of course, will watch our hokey parade and fireworks over Crowley Lake.

So I'll spend at least a little time thinking about Baja, as I slug back a cold Pacifico. Have a great time everyone, wherever you spend it. And wave old glory proudly.

YES INDEED, I welcome the opportunity to follow Jim!

For Nomads who couldn't be with us last President's Day Weekend, that is Surfer Jim on the bridge that once connected Shell Island to the rest of Baja! Now, only low tide or in the water access! http://vivabaja.com/204

viabaja - 6-25-2004 at 07:56 PM

Those guys fron Arizona did an outstanding job of building that bridge to shell beach. Thay great piece of work is still standing after the road is continuing to wash out!!! American knowhow!

FROM ARIZONA? Please tell us the story?
Because it is seperated from the mainland at extreme high tide, I have always refered to it as a barrier island... with tons of shells, thus 'Shell Island' .

Bob and Pat Hale (who I met a few years later) on the 'island' told me they called it Shell Beach, as you do. Since Bob is crazy (driving that huge motorhome onto the bottomless sand beach), I respected his choice of names, ha! I think 'Island' is more romantic sounding and there already is another Shell Beach in Baja (Punta Chivato), so I stick with Shell Island... So Chris, what's your holiday plans?

Debra - 6-26-2004 at 09:33 AM

Anyone that is at Camp Gecko over the holiday, or from the 30th. June to about the first of sometime in Augest, ...(just ask Doc. to point me out) I'll be bringing the Matomi 2001 video and also the the video from the first BBBB, if you would like to see them, (El Camote made them....fun times. :)

So that's the guy that made me look so bad!

I went there with my family once and forgot to air down before hitting the sand. As I realized the wheels were spinning, I started looking for a spot with good enough traction to stop so I could air down...

Too late! Buried up to the steprails (when I still had those useless things!) As we are all digging, airing down, and placing our firewood under the tires my daughter then points out, "Hey Dad, if you're stuck in your 4-Wheel Drive SUV, how did that guy get his big ol' Motor Home out here?":o:o

Bajaboy - 6-30-2004 at 12:07 AM

I'll be working this weekend as well. But, I hope to get down for a few days in August...maybe Bahia Asuncion/Tortugas area.

I'll be heading down for 10 days in October for my wedding in Elias Calles.

Hope everyone has a safe trip this weekend.

I'm so jealous I'm turning green! The one d*&m year I decide to stay home for the fourth....and it is overcast, raining, and thunder. Not that I don't enjoy a good storm...but that's not the right weather for a Fourth of July.
Even my dos XX isn't helping....

Geary - 6-29-2005 at 07:39 AM

The 9th Annual 4th of July Picnic will be again held at Playa el Burro, Bahia Concepcion. Noon to Dark. Free Hot Dogs, Cheap Beer, Music. Shade tents, tables, and chairs provided by Corona.
Unfortionally we have been unable to get any fireworks past the military check points. Perhaps someone will get lucky and we will again have fireworks. The Mexican government sees to be rather unsimpathic to our Independence Day celebration traditions. Oh Well.

Welcome Geary, great to see you found our board.

Keri - 6-29-2005 at 08:24 AM

Geary has some great baja tales on cd. Be careful this weekend guys or you might be in one of his stories. Geary it would be great if you would write something here for us about the big party and all the people that were there all the fun stuff. We all like to read reports from baja.I keep trying to get him here for the book signing. hope you all have a great time. Work keeps me here this weekend but at least here is already in baja, k:bounce::bounce::bounce:

David: would that be " Tuxedo Ed" whom you are referring to?

Lero

Summit City!

yankeeirishman - 6-29-2005 at 09:05 AM

Yeah...welll...it's sorta close to Baja! We're doing an 4 day run to www.ghosttowns.com/states/ca/summitcity.html These roads are just about as bad as some of Baja's. Good fishing, panning, and chasing Bears barehanded are the events of the day!

[Edited on 6-29-2005 by yankeeirishman]

a fifth on the fourth

mulege marv - 6-30-2005 at 06:08 AM

we will be at burro for 2 days, achored in the bay, life is tough !

Bruce R Leech - 6-30-2005 at 07:20 AM

It is not a holiday in Mexico so I will be working . I only get Mexican days off.:(

Taco de Baja - 6-30-2005 at 07:37 AM

Ill be a long way from Baja on the 4th, cruise to Alaska......

But, plan on finally getting to the beach in the 7 Sisters area at the end of August.

marla - 6-30-2005 at 11:18 AM

Gotta do some work on my house in Joshua Tree. At least it's in the desert, right? Just on the wrong side of the border. The good news is the place is almost decent enough to invite Baja buddies to visit.

David

LaTijereta - 6-30-2005 at 11:57 AM

David,
When are you crossing the border on Friday am? I was hoping to stop and have breakfast at El Palomar in Sta Thomas...:P
Then on onto the Vag beach party in San Qunitin..Hope to be through Ensenada around 7:30am:yes:

Check the YEAR this thread began!

David K - 6-30-2005 at 07:13 PM

Hi Kris, this thread is a year old... my comments about Friday AM start were made in 2004. I WISH I was going then!

I would enjoy hooking up with you two, but I will be working in Encinitas and Carlsbad Friday morning!

Bajalero... I don't know a Tuxedo Ed, sorry. The motorhome on a beach person is Bob Hale.

I hope everyone going into Baja this (2005) year has a wonderful time... I look forward to the trip reports.

I probably won't be going too far south this weekend, need to save up for El Rosario and Mision Santa Maria on the 22nd!
