Well now we don't have just one we have 3 of the big buggers on our ranch here in the Sierra! And here we thought we were retired from a life of
farming LOL!
So I got some shots of the brands and sent them to the bramadero association. They are likely stolen from another area of Baja or even the states.
Found out though that even though our ranch is not fenced we are fully within our rights to do with them as we see fit, apparently the legal onus is
on the owner of the livestock.
If we can't find out through the ganadero people then maybe we can donate the meat to a local charity/foodbank or something.
Sure won't miss them they sure make a racket when they fight with one another!

I have a cow story. Years back there was a water hole 3 miles up the road. Around this water hole were lots of mexican range cattle. Usually the cow
herd will stay around a valley where there is food and water. In years past when food was not plentiful the cows would come down the side of the road
usually as a herd looking for some nutrition. One of their favorite food stops was Buenaventura.
Usually right after dark approximately 15 cows would walk down the side of the road and invade the place. The cows would eat plants, cactus and
garbage. Sometimes the cows would drag the plastic garbage bags out of the truck, tear open the plastic and start eating the garbage. In a way it was
funny watching the cows chomp down cardboard like it tasted good, but they would make a mess like a pack of dogs. You know the cows are starving when
they eat dry cardboard. Our dogs would start the alert by barking. The kind of bark like.....you know something is going on. I come out bearing
flashlight and tell the dogs to get the cow. These cows are so hungry they ignore me and the dogs. The dogs will come back to me a give me this look
"what do we do?". Sometimes I throw rocks, but it has little effect. So this one time I get my flare gun from the boat. I shoot the flare over some of
the cattle and they freak with fright. The cattle start galloping and the rest of the cows join in. These starving cattle leave Buenaventura in a
stampede on the Mex. #1 taking their half in the middle of the road. At over 500 yds away at the turn they were still at a full gallop. Never saw cows
run like these. It really scared me because there might be someone in a car or truck coming around the corner. Luckily that did not happen.
Another time there was a lone cow eating out of a garbage can and I went out to visit. Drinking a XX beer I poured a slash on the cows nose. It
started licking the beer off the nose. Offering more it tilted it's head back and sucked the beer out of the bottle. Went back to the restaurant got a
couple of more XX beers and gave the cow another two. After the cow had three beers I told it time to go slapped it on the rear and it walked away
down the road a little better off! Cows like beer!BajaNuts - 8-16-2009 at 12:20 AM
and a good friend told me about the deer she rescued and raised from infancy who would come up on her deck, nibble Fritos from the bag and lap beer
out of my friend's glass.
The Universal Drink ? perhaps...........OLIGUACOMOLE - 8-16-2009 at 04:07 PM
Could use a bear like that here. Bear drinks more beer in one sitting than we sell in two days!fdt - 8-16-2009 at 04:48 PM
