could we consider dumping the current off topic?

Perhaps a poll could be started to see if there is enough interest. The current off topic is a cess pool of ignorance and inhospitable rantings from both sides of the political/social fence. It does not really allow for courteous off topic postings from decent respectful Nomads. Could we not just dump it and create a polite off topic that is moderated to some degree. The rude ones could then take their rantings to another location on the web! I'm sure there are a myriad of sites for them out there!

Just find a way to present your topic to the main board. More often than not, in spite of it not being pure Baja, it will stay up. If it doesn't you may want to re-examin the content of the post for unacceptible content.

I agree that censorship is bad but like jdtrotter I feel that there is almost no merit to what goes on in the current OT. I have never been provoked into creative thoughtful contemplation by anything that has been said there. Now I just avoid it like the plague, to me its a waste of bandwidth that could otherwise be put to better use for the benefit of others on this board. Anyway I created a poll so lets see.

What happened here is that the more socially and politically involved have not taken over but, been left with the place since the less interested had nothing else to say. You folks who ignore the site have turned it over to those who find it a viable forum.

On occasion I've perused various Blogs and Forums where the contributors are REALLY serious about their politics and the postings here are MILD Fun play in comparison.

Interestingly, it is ALMOST always those to The LEFT who seem to advocate Censorship. But then, they've NEVER really been for Free Speech other than their own. A trait they demonstrate again and again on College Campuses whenever Conservatives show up to speak.

But, Whatever. When it ceases to be fun, it's time to move on.
