Looking for any first hand experience with Los Cabos or La Paz outboard motor dealers and any opinions on which brand is the most reliable.

Judy.... I have had many outboards of different brands and sizesin the past. If you can afford a brand new unit, a Yamaha 4 cycle is a good choice.
Just as reliable or maybe a little more reliable than a Honda for a little less money. Honda would be my next choice. If you buy it locally, the

We have had good luck with the Yamaha dealer that is located about 6 blocks from Los Arcos as the Malecon road leaves the water, heading towards El
Centinario. If they don't have the motor you need, they can usually have it in a few days.
Hector is the mechanic that separately owns the shop in the same building. He is a mechanical engineer and a Diaz. Very smart mechanic and he likes
Yamahas; just beware of his dog !!
He also speaks english if anyone needs a mechanic in La Paz.

Hondas have had far fewer issues, service bulletins, etc. than Yamaha when it comes to four stroke engines. I'd go Honda, if you can afford it.

My boat mechanic, one of the better ones in Loreto, told me, since 4 stroke engines are all the rage, there should be some great buys on 2 stroke
engines, which, btw, are nearly as reliable nowadays as a 4 stroke, besides being a lot lighter and easy to maintain.Crusoe - 8-15-2009 at 06:59 PM
Judy, What was the horsepower of the 77Merc that crapped out. Did you ever feel you wish you had more H.P. or less? Also, If you have any close
Canadian friends......and for some reason that I have never been able to figure out..... The list price of new Yamaha's in Canada are about 25% less

I was told when I got my 2005 Merc 115HP 4 stroke that it was last of the Yamaha power units. Merc had sued Yamaha for dumping in the US and Yamaha
simply told them they would not make heads for them anymore. Don't know if this was true or if they have made up. 75/90/115s made after 2005 no
