No delays and no stops at all checkpoints southbound, including the border, where they just used the red/green light system.
Still doing construction with minor delays near end of Ruta del Vino before Ensenada turn, with a few miles of rough "cobblestone"-like dirt road.
Driving a small car just after dark was annoying, with high beams, mis-adjusted headlights, and missing headlights galore. They don't thin out until
about 10-11 PM, when the more serious night-drivers come out.
All in all, no problems to speak of, unless you include Phoenix with idiot drivers piling up and blocking 3 lanes...Ahab - 10-10-2009 at 09:38 AM
Would someone pulling a trailor have a problem?Beachgirl - 10-10-2009 at 05:05 PM

Anybody have any news on how Hwy 3 is faring with the storm passing through? When I drove north last month there was a lengthy stretch near the
southern end of Hwy 3 that was all dirt, different levels, etc that seemed like it could turn into a bog with enough rain. I'm heading south on
Wednesday AM, so any updates are greatly appreciated!Diver - 12-7-2009 at 06:15 PM

No problem pulling a trailer this route.
We do it both ways every year (almost).
The worst pull is heading up the hill, going south out of town.
We like to camp the night before at Potrero County Park (8 miles from the border) and get any FMT's the afternoon before crossing.geomike - 12-11-2009 at 09:03 PM

Is it reasonable to make it as far as Ranch Santa Inez on the first driving day? We will be hauling a 30 ft 5th Wheel
As above I had planned to stay at the Portrero Park and get the permits organized the day before.
For my family, a 10 hour drive is pushing it but 6 to 8 hrs is pretty easy to handle.
Too much?boe4fun - 12-12-2009 at 09:58 AM
Geomike, I usually pull a 25' 5th wheel and I would think that San Quintin or maybe even El Rosario is doable within your time frame, but not

Right on! Thanks for the info Paul. I think we will try for El Rosario then. Maybe we're lucky and get to sample our first fish taco at Espinoza's!

We will be crossing in Tacate for the first time. Where is the best place to get FMTs nearby??
Thanks in advance!Diver - 1-2-2010 at 11:19 AM
The immigration office is on the right, just across the border.
The building with the ramp and stairs.
The bank is now a block or 2 away.
You can usually park on the US side and walk across for the visas.
Parking on the Mex side is harder to find.Fred - 1-2-2010 at 02:59 PM
I stop at the side of the office ( orange cones) and get the paperwork done and then drive down to the bank. Tip the guy a buck and go into the bank
get the paperwork completed and then some pesos and walk back up to the office. Walk back down and give the guy another buck if my van is still
there.
