Saw the one at La Bocana/Puerto Santo Tomas starting yesterday with a big mushroom plume. Other big one was
approx 5 miles east of Baja Country Club.
Wind was down yesterday and still calm this morning. Hope the fires run out of fuel, but the hot weather has made the landscape crispy.
No photos for you, as the grey sky this morning provides very little contrast.shari - 8-28-2009 at 08:01 AM
wow doc...LOVE the new avatar....who painted it?bajadock - 8-28-2009 at 08:50 AM
Good news is that skies are clearing enough to get a photo at 8:30am. The plume in that photo is the "San Carlos" fire, east of Baja Country Club.
Sky is completely clear north to Bajamar. A small white plume is still peeking out south of hills at La Bocana/PST.
Shari, thanks, but, I believe I violated copyright laws for my avatar. I also committed art blasphemy by editing that fun print to include my "pub".bajaguy - 8-28-2009 at 08:55 AM
Thanks for the update and photo, Doc......give me an e-mail if it looks like it is headed to the BCCDianaT - 8-28-2009 at 07:51 PM
Driving back to the states yesterday, we saw lots of smoke from a couple of fires and one place on the main highway was still smoking--it was the one
that went out toward La Bocana. It looked like it started on the east side of the highway and quickly jumped to the west side---the wind was quite
strong in that direction.
Then on the Tecate Highway we came upon another fire---not far from where the 4 lane ends. On the one side of the highway, they were repairing burned
and downed electric lines, and then we saw the fire. Unfortunately, we saw one house right on the highway that it burned down.
There was a line of flames climbing the moutain headed back toward the Ensenada area-----
Took a couple of quick pix out the window---not very good and some are badly blurred, but we had to keep moving for the most part.
There was a fire engine next to the house that is not seen in these pictures----but the house looked like a total loss.
Hope no one was hurt. Down the road we saw a fire engine in front of a local health clinic.bajadock - 8-30-2009 at 11:16 AM
The big puffy cumulus-looking cloud toward which my boat is headed is the 11AM, Saturday, 29 August La Bocana/Puerto Santo Tomas fire, 10 miles south
of Punta Banda.
This shot is 29 Aug at 14:30 of the San Carlos fire, east of Baja Country Club. The shot is taken from the downtown Ensenada Cruiseport Marina.
Fires were docile early this morning from downtown Ensenada view. Little wind today and marine layer is hiding any activity from my view at the pub
on Punta Banda at 11:00. Hope fires are running out of fuel.
Nice photography, JDT.Von - 8-30-2009 at 11:31 AM
So thats where all the smoke was coming from. I was watching the sunset yesterday at La Jolla shores with my wife and we could see the smoke all the
way over here 120 miles away!beachbum1A - 8-31-2009 at 01:58 PM

BB1A, I'll help with any liquid rescues from the frig. Fires calm today. We hope our southern neighbors just get a little moisture and send some
our way.
