El Morro Santa Rosalia

Does anyone know for sure if the El Morro Motel allows pets? I've heard it both ways and have never stayed there myself. With the damage in Mulege, we need to find a pet friendly motel for the night since our usual stop won't be available.

I wonder what kind of damage El Morro suffered? Is it even open?

Unless the highway is damaged to the point where entry to El Morro is impassable I'd bet that it is open.

As to pets, don't know their policy but I'd also bet it's a pet-friendly place and run on a case-by-case basis. Management there seem very laid-back and congenial.

El Morro is on high ground. And it has survived many storms over the years.If there was any damage, I'd guess it would have been wind related.
One note on the pet-friendly thing- even beford Jimena, the tourist economy had been in the toilet. I would think that only the most obstinate business owners would turn down paying customers, with pets.

We stayed at El Morro just a few weeks ago on our way up from Loreto and it was no problem with our dog. There was no questions or extra charge. There's also lots of "walking" room around the hotel. Overall, a good place for a pet friendly stop in SR.

We've stayed there many times with our Airedale. It was never a problem. They do have cats around so we took extra care to keep our dog leashed...he really is a cat chasing terrier.

Where is el Morro located? I was going to stay somewhere in Mulege but with all the damages by Jimena I don't know any of them are open, and it will be nice to know a nice place in Santa Rosalia....

I just got off the phone with El Morro.

There is no problem with pets. and the road is wide open.

The place is located about 1 mile (mas o menos) south of Santa Rosalia.

There is a decent bar and restaurant there and the staff is always eager to please.

It is actually a fantastic piece pf property, sitting high above the Sea of Cortez. Large, enclosed parking lot. Pool. Tropical ambience. I hope the birds in their aviary made it through OK. I have often thought that except for the fact that Santa Rosalia is most often thought of as just a place to refuel, this property would make an amazing desination resort.

The motel was dirty last trip
We stayed there one night
Normal mexican motel
Eat there at your own risk
Look in the kitchen first
It is bad
It is no La Pinta or whatever they are called now

It is an established policy at the El Morro that if you get a room that not clean, they will relocate you to another room.

So rather than b-tch about the condtions on this website, b-tch to the management at the hotel.

There are other motels/hotels around for those that cannot abide with what is offered, however, it is doubtful anything will fill their hearts to contentment.

And the thread continues about whether the place is pet friendly!!!!!!

Kat- when was your last trip? I can say with confidence that this is no upscale property. However, if people are talking about temporary housing out of Mulege, this is a prime location. Fact is, that outside of a couple of boutique places like Casa Granada, El Morro is superior to just about any hotel in Mulege.

We were in Santa Rosalia for just an afternoon a few months ago. We stopped there to inquire about our dogs for future reference----they were very nice and said no problem. They said they mainly allowed the dogs in the rooms that overlook the water---the ones with patio.

We asked if they expected the dogs to stay on the patio, and she just smiled and said well, no. But as with most, they do not want them on the beds.

We look forward to trying it for a weekend----when the weather cools way down.

I have stayed at the El Morro a few times over the years. The best thing about the place is that they let dogs stay there too. They usually put us in the ocean-front rooms with the little private yards. The bar is good and drinks are cold and good. The food is not too good and the kitchen is chancy at best. The bakery in town gets my vote for breakfast and lunch. There are several good, cleaner restaurants in town. The B and B by the old mill workings is good to but might be still closed after the storm. The Morro is open, I hear. El Morro does have safe parking, 24- hour security and great views. Have fun!:)

Veering slightly, but still El Morro. Same people own the El Morro in Guerrero Negro. Stayed there years ago, and found it to be a dump. Made their Santa Rosalia property seem like Ritz-Carlton by comparison. Anyone stayed at the El Morro GN recently? Have they upgraded?
