BOLA Report 9/20-21

Bugman - 9-24-2009 at 09:54 AM

Went for a quick trip to BOLA over the weekend and got to fish two days before having to head home. The weather was hot and a bit humid but certainly not unbearable. First day (9/20)was pretty good with lots of small dorado in the 5 pound range around and good numbers of sierra and some skipjack. We had no trouble catching plenty for fresh ceviche and fish tacos. Best lures were rapalas and feathers. Second day (9/21) was one of those frustrating days with fish jumping everywhere and refusing to touch anything we threw at them. I ended up with around 6 sierra and that was it after about 5 hours. Lots of baitfish in the water so that is what I am blaming it on rather than me just being bad luck

I figure one of these days I am going to catch something worth bragging about even if snagged by accident!

Thanks for the report bugman. Sounds like you did pretty well. I'd be happy with a trip like that.

We are heading down on the 2nd of Oct and I hope we will still have luck with DODO. Can't wait, I feel the pull of Baja!

I would have been happy even if I did not catch anything as I was there instead of at work! Last time down I thought I finally had my big jurel but a sea lion saw to it that I would be denied yet again. Fishing had been slow all day and near the end finally my line screamed off the reel for about 5 seconds and then went slack. As I pulled in my line in with nothing but a frayed end a sea lion crawled up on the rocks in front of me eating a jurel with my rapala still stuck in its mouth. Oh well....

I stayed at Raquel and Larry's and fished with Captain Marcos. It looks like they are going to have electricity out there any day now as they were starting to re-wire the place when we left in prep for the big hookup to the main power. The sierra made awesome ceviche by the way. I just ate the last of it over the weekend. Next trip is probably not until around Thanksgiving. Adios for now... :)

Thanksgiving is right around the corner! You'll be back there before you know it.

I'm envious.
