Does anyone know how Hook faired over in Sonora with Jimena? I don't recall seeing any posts from him lately.

Ken - San Carlos got whacked big time. i saw pictures, one of our Sams pilots works the orphanage at Guaymas. they got 24 inches of rain very fast - lots of major bldg damage and infrastructure wiped out, bridges etc.
it was a total mess over there.

Mike,

I knew that, hope our Nomad over there is ok.

It was quite surprising to see how much storm damage occurred on the mainland, given the track of the storm. Here's hoping our friend Hook did ok.

His last post was on the 15th. No sense of emergency at all.

Hook,

Never having met you, I just can't seem to get this mental image of you out of my mind.

I am fine, though w/o internet access, save for the occasional cafe or amigo. Absolutely no damage to us.

But we have taken on organizing and trench responsibilities for the relief effort in our area. It has been very bad on those near seasonal arroyos, as with Baja.

Yesterday we set up about 30 Shelter Boxes, which are homes in a box provided by a chapter of the Rotarians. Grueling work in this heat and humidity. Another 18 over the next two days.

Tomorrow we must distribute a whole warehouse of donated materials in advance of more arriving on succeeding days. We distribute this through a network of gringo and mexican volunteers with pickup trucks.

I am biting my lip when the occasional Japanese truck is willing to help, of course..................LOL!!!!!! This despite my Ford diesel taking a crap at a most inopportune time (the under valve cover disconnect, for those of you interested). But I managed the 25 cent fix (literally!) and we are back up.

Probably the best way to keep abreast of our efforts is to check out my wife's blog. sancarlosbound.blogspot.com. It isnt as current as it should be but we are off the grid for the forseeable future. But it has some of our disaster efforts.

I have done no fishing for at least a month, either.

Many thanks to Roberto, Acudoc, and others who have donated funds to the relief effort over here. It didnt come ashore as a Cat 3 Hurricane but 30+ inches in 27 hours defies categorization by the NHC.

Joe, your mental image IS the inspiration for mi nombre. I loved the character as a child.

Hasta escrita, amigos.

Glad to here you're safe and had no damage. Reports were pretty scary in your area.

Good for you with the relief efforts!!
