The Mothers of Plaza Tijuana
Frontera NorteSur, Posted: Sep 26, 2009
TIJUANA -- Inspired by Argentina's Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, relatives of the disappeared staged a demonstration in Tijuana on Sept. 25 to demand
answers about the whereabouts of 320 people forcibly disappeared or kidnapped, reports Frontera NorteSur. Relatives plastered pictures of their
missing loved ones on the exterior of the government offices. Like Argentina's mothers, Tijuana families plan to stage pot-banging protests every
Friday until authorities comply with previous commitments to search for missing persons kidnapped for ransom or by narco-style armed commandos.
The earlier discovery of mass graves containing the remains of victims dissolved in acid has not served to clear up the mystery of the disappeared,
said Fernando Ocegueda Flores, secretary of the Tijuana-based Citizens Association against Impunity. Ocegueda claims that members of his group were
even told by state law enforcement officials to forget about their missing loved ones. According to Ocegueda, at least four new cases of people
disappeared in Tijuana are added to the long list each month.
