Back last July a thread was posted here about two big real estate projects near Loreto being denied permits by SEMARNAT (I think it was Puerto
Escondido and Riviera Loreto) when their environmental impact studies didn't meet standards. That was great news.
Now, over on the other side of the Sea of Cortez in Rocky Point, SEMARNAT has come through again (for a second time!) by denying permits for the Sandy
Beach Resorts Marina, which would have destroyed a critical rocky reef and the La Cholla Estuary. Details at CEDO Victorious in Sandy Beach Resorts Marina Controversy
There was a ton of money and influence behind all three of these projects, yet for once they weren't rubber stamped through the system.
Does this mean there's hope for more responsible development in Mexico? Has SEMARNAT grown a pair?

Tiger, we hope to see lots more news because there are 45 more beach resort projects whose plans are now under their scrutiny. It's in the open now
and groups of people who might be affected by these proposed projects are meeting right now to discuss the projects and ways to shape them so they
will not be ruinous to land, sea or people they touch. Riviera Maya can show them many failures and sucess stories -- they really should have a pretty
good handle on it by now.

Maybe some reverse bribing. Eco entities bribing them to stop development. I can only hope. Tell me where to send the money.
